  • Confers with developers, contractors, superintendents, inspectors, and owners to ensure safety procedures.

Reports to: Public Works Manager The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Participates in pre-construction development of plans and specifications by reviewingconstruction plans,attendingpre-construction meetings, andassistingin developing construction specifications.
  • Observeswork during progress and upon completion; recommend progresspayments.
  • Coordinates frequently with contractors during construction projects.
  • Provides daily oversight of active construction projects.
  • Conferswith developers, contractors, superintendents, inspectors, and owners;ensuresthat safety procedures are followed.
  • Advisescontractors of changes in plans and variances; worksout conflicts.
  • Coordinateswork and interactswith other city departments and outside agencies.
  • Preparesdetailed documentation of construction progress and inspection;preparesvarious reports on daily operations and activities.
  • Maintains records including logbooks, project folders, and As-Build drawings.
  • Performs stormwater infrastructure inspections; collectswater samples for analysisas necessary.
  • Inspectstraffic signal construction and installation.
  • Assists with erosion control, storm water quality and drainage issues andcomplaints.
  • Reviews sub-base roll for new streets, inspects stone base, curbs, and asphaltplacement.
  • Respondsto citizen inquiries/complaints regarding public works and developmentprojects.
  • Participates in the annual inspection of stormwater systems as required by MS4.
Additional Functions:
  • Serves on call for after-hours project-related issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Associate’s degree in a construction related field; and three (3) years of experience in construction or inspection. An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Additional Requirements:

Requires a valid State of Georgia Driver’s License with an acceptable driving history.

Performs technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of basic algebra and statistics. Some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis; reporting on the accomplishment of specific departmental goals and tasks.

Works in a responsive environment where co-workers or citizens bring problems to the employee for resolution. Is responsible for determining the problem and creating an individual solution for the issue.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, equipment, and standard clerical procedures including electronic filing and records management.
  • Knowledge of time management system for payroll and benefits procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of record keeping and filing techniques.
  • Knowledge of the City's personnel policies and procedures, rules and regulations, operational instructions and pay plan.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal laws pertaining to employment and personnel practices, including Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act; Equal Employment Opportunities Commission requirements; Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence and Bullying, and workers’ compensation laws.
  • Skills in communication including written communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, phone skills, and electronic communication.
  • Skills in time management to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Skills in customer service and problem solving.
  • Skills in the use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to problem-solve, handle confidential information, perform computer related functions and bookkeeping functions.
  • Ability to always display professionalism.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations in an effective, safe, timely and legal manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with City employees.
