Job summary

Orthogonal is hiring an infrastructure engineer to build and operate the systems behind the company. You will work on API execution, reliability, observability, security, and deployment. This is a full-time, in-person role in San Francisco, reporting to the founders.

You will design and operate services that discover, call, and meter third-party APIs, and help improve reliability, latency, and incident response while building deployment infrastructure and ensuring data integrity.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional infrastructure or backend engineering experience.
• Experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and databases.
• Comfortable with TypeScript and Node.js or another server-side language.
• Experience with cloud services, containers, CI/CD, and observability tools.
• Able to debug failures across application and infrastructure layers.
• Comfortable working closely with a small team and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate services that discover, call, and meter third-party APIs.
• Improve system reliability, latency, monitoring, and incident response.
• Build deployment, testing, and development infrastructure.
• Improve database performance and data reliability.
• Review infrastructure for security and operational risks.
• Help make technical decisions as the platform grows.
