Job summary

Applied Optimization is seeking an Information Technology Intern to support IT operations at our Dayton, OH office. The position is part-time (16+ hours/week) with flexible hours to accommodate class schedules and exams.

You will assist in administering, maintaining and enhancing IT systems, interface with MSP and vendors, and gain hands-on experience across software/hardware, security protocols, and IT project support.

Qualifications

  • College sophomore or junior with GPA 3.5+.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
  • Effective problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Attention to detail and effective time and schedule management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Windows-related platform technical support; some Linux experience desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of computer networks.
  • Ability to respond to evolving customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to maintain IT systems and interface with MSP and vendors.
  • Maintain all software and hardware and assimilate new software as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of hardware/software and track licenses/renewals.
  • Diagnose and repair computer hardware (PCs, printers, laptops, phones, etc.).
  • Coordinate with MSP on procurement and security compliance protocols.
  • Participate in and lead training sessions for new/current software/hardware.

Applied Optimization (AO) Job Description

Job Title: Information Technology (IT) Engineer Intern  Reports to: Principal Scientist

FLSA Status: Part-Time (Non-Exempt)   Department: IT

Position Objective
  • To assist in administrating, maintaining and enhancing all aspects of the information (IT) technology utilized at AO, with minimal intrusion to other co-workers.
Essential Functions
  • Provide technical support to maintain the information systems within the organization and interface with Managed Service Provider (MSP) and vendors.
  • Maintain all software and hardware currently used within the company and possess the ability to quickly assimilate and understand other software as needed.
  • Maintain an orderly and accessible inventory of hardware and software as well as track licenses and renewal updates as needed.
  • Diagnose and repair computer hardware problems, including but not limited to PC’s, printers, laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices.
  • Coordinate with the MSP to develop and follow protocols for purchase of hardware and software to maintain rigorous compliance with security requirements.
  • Participate in training sessions and lead training sessions are needed to acquaint other with new and/or current software and hardware.
  • Plan for the future IT needs of the company, including technologies, systems, policies and procedures.
  • Duties subject to change as determined by needs of business over time.
Required Qualifications
  • College Sophomore or Junior with GPA of 3.5 or higher

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows-related platform technical support. Some Linux experience is desirable

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree; and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience
  • Familiarity of Software development lifecycle and revision control practices is helpful
Citizenship/Security Clearance Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • May be required to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance
About Our Internships
  • Hours: The internship is a part-time, year-round position that requires a minimum of sixteen hours per week of work. The hours are flexible and they can change from one quarter to another based on the class schedule. The weekly hours can be adjusted to balance for the examinations, tests and project submissions.
