What You Will Do

Join the Chief Information Office (IT Organization)! We are seeking energetic graduate students to support the Laboratory's I&T environment. The IT organization provides direct support to both unclassified and classified mission needs across the Laboratory, as well as technical services for configuration management within LANL computing environments. Our team includes Computing Systems Professionals, Computing and Network Systems Technicians, Cybersecurity Technical Staff, Solution Architects, IT Project Managers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers,

Successful candidates will be provided with a mentor and assigned to a team based on their skills, interests, and the needs of the organization.

For full consideration, candidates must be pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related fields.

Select candidates may be placed with one of the following divisions:

  • ADS - Application and Data Services
  • CISO - Chief Information Security Office
  • ICE - Innovative Customer Experience
  • ISD - Infrastructure Services Division
  • PSE - Program Strategy and Execution
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
  • This category applies to students currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent) in an accredited graduate degree program
  • Entering graduate students must provide documentation indicating acceptance into a graduate degree program.
  • Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management skills, detail oriented, and organized
  • Proven experience collaborating effectively within team environments in various projects
Knowledge or experience in the following areas
  • Cybersecurity
  • Mac OS X desktop administration
  • Linux desktop administration
  • Solving software and hardware issues
  • Hardware or software applications
  • Desire to learn and build knowledge within the realm of Information and Technology

Education/Experience: BS Degree from an accredited program in computer science or related field completed within the past 3 years with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Desired Qualifications
  • Exceptional Customer Service Skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience with cybersecurity
  • PMP or related Scrum certifications (CSM, PSM, PSPO, or similar)
  • Knowledge of /or experience with hardware or software hard drive encryption
  • Courses taken or vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) well in a professional scientific context; and Commitment to achieving results in a complex social and organizational setting.

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q

Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Internal Applicants

Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
