Job description

This position is fully onsite in Mooresville, NC (just north of Charlotte). No travel.

Full Time |Competitive salary and full benefits.

IST Precision, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company specializing in high precision instrumentation, automation systems, and diagnostic equipment. For more than 25 years we have delivered engineering solutions across the space and defense, telecommunications, life science, automotive, and medical industries. Our 20,000 square foot facility houses in house machining, welding and fabrication, machine assembly areas, electronics laboratories, a 3D printing lab, and dedicated testing labs, letting our team design, build, and validate advanced systems entirely under one roof.

With more than 34 highly skilled engineers and technicians, IST integrates mechanical, electrical, and software expertise to deliver turnkey solutions from concept through commissioning.

We are hiring a hands on, onsite IT Administrator to be the internal owner of day to day IT for our team. You will work in a comanaged model alongside a third party managed security provider (MSP) that handles advanced cybersecurity, 24/7 monitoring, patching, and CMMC security strategy. Your focus is everything on the ground that keeps the company running: the onsite hands, business application support, and implementation work the MSP does not cover.

You will receive a thorough onboarding, but after ramp up you are expected to run day to day IT largely independently, coordinating with our MSP and company leadership rather than requiring close supervision. It suits someone technical, resourceful, and genuinely good with their hands, who wants ownership and room to grow as the company scales. Because our MSP handles the heavy security work, this role offers real ownership of the onsite environment and room to grow into our cybersecurity and CMMC posture over time.

Key Responsibilities

Onsite IT and End User Support

  • Set up, configure, deploy, and maintain Windows laptops and desktops for an engineering and manufacturing team.
  • Provide first line, onsite support for hardware, software, printers, peripherals, and general computer issues.
  • Proactively keep engineering workstations running at peak performance: run diagnostics, monitor performance, and tune, upgrade, or right size systems for demanding CAD and simulation workloads.
  • Troubleshoot onsite server issues and keep on premises systems healthy.
  • Maintain a standardized workstation build and image and keep the fleet consistent; install and update software and manage licenses.
  • Support conference room AV and video conferencing (Microsoft Teams and Google Meet) for internal and customer or Government meetings.
  • Provide IT support for lab, test equipment, and shop floor PCs, with room to grow into supporting remote operations and controls systems with our automation group.

Hardware Lifecycle, Repair and Procurement

  • Diagnose and repair computer hardware issues, or coordinate warranty and RMA repairs with OEMs and vendors to get machines fixed quickly.
  • Stay current with computing trends; recommend, spec, source, and purchase workstations and peripherals suited to each role, from high performance CAD workstations to standard office machines.
  • Manage IT purchasing: obtain quotes, manage vendor relationships and purchase orders, and track warranties, licensing, and refresh cycles.
  • Track IT asset inventory across its full lifecycle.
  • Securely decommission and sanitize retired devices and storage media (consistent with NIST SP 800) before disposal, reuse, or return.

Business Applications

  • Support and help administer our company ERP system (user access, day to day issues, coordination with the vendor).
  • Support the engineering team's PDM and CAD data management vault: users, check in and check out issues, and vault health.
  • Administer and monitor our cloud productivity platforms (Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace): accounts, licenses, mailboxes, shared drives, and basic security settings.

Servers, Storage and Backups

  • Maintain on premises servers and network attached storage (NAS), including permissions and shares.
  • Monitor backup jobs (on premises and cloud), verify success, and assist with periodic recovery tests.

Networking

  • Handle day to day networking tasks: managed switches (VLANs and ports), WiFi, cabling, and basic firewall and VPN support in coordination with our MSP.

Onboarding, Offboarding and Access

  • Own the IT side of employee onboarding and offboarding: provision and set up accounts and email, issue and configure equipment, and promptly disable access at separation.
  • Maintain least privilege access and keep account and permission records current.

Facility and Physical Security

  • Help implement and maintain facility physical security: badge and access control systems, door hardware, alarm and camera systems.
  • Assist with physical access logging and related records.

Compliance Documentation and CMMC Support

  • Maintain and keep current the company's NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC compliance documentation set, including the System Security Plan (SSP), Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), security self assessments, written policies and procedures, and system and asset inventories, updating them as the environment changes.
  • Be the onsite hands that implements the technical tasks and recommendations from our MSP
  • Help roll out and enforce controls: MFA on endpoints and servers, workstation hardening, encryption, logging, and update policies.
  • Gather evidence and artifacts (screenshots, logs, configurations, asset lists) and help maintain compliance records.
  • Support ITAR and CUI data handling practices under the direction of leadership and the MSP. You execute compliance tasks; you are not the sole owner of compliance strategy, which is shared with our MSP and leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship (required; no H1B or TN sponsorship).
  • 3 or more years of hands on IT administration and support experience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage day to day IT after a thorough onboarding, with growing autonomy over the first several months.
  • Solid Windows workstation and server, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, and general networking skills.
  • Comfortable with hardware, cabling, and physical setup; genuinely good with your hands.
  • Understanding of general cybersecurity hygiene (MFA, patching, hardening, backups) and willingness to execute compliance tasks guided by our MSP.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Highly tech savvy and a fast, self motivated learner who enjoys picking up new systems and technologies.
  • Genuine interest in growing into our cybersecurity and CMMC compliance posture over time (we will support your development).
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in an engineering, R&D, or manufacturing environment.
  • Hardware repair and diagnostics and vendor warranty (RMA) coordination.
  • Experience specifying and procuring computers, including high performance CAD workstations.
  • Experience with workstation performance tuning and optimization for demanding CAD or simulation software.
  • Experience maintaining IT or compliance documentation (system security plans, POA&Ms, policies, asset inventories).
  • CAD and PDM data management vault administration.
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration.
  • Familiarity with CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, DFARS, or ITAR (not required to be an expert; our MSP leads this).
  • Security+ or similar certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic scripting (PowerShell) helpful.
  • Experience working alongside an MSP, security vendor, or compliance consultant.
  • Physical security, or alarm system familiarity a plus.
