Job summary

Amentum is seeking an Information Systems Watch Technician in the Arlington, VA area. This role supports the customer’s facility by ensuring telecommunications systems are fully functional for senior leader decision support teams. A DoD TS/SCI clearance adjudicated in the last 5 years or CE is required.

Work is on a rotating 12-hour shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 operations. Travel up to 5% may be required.

• Experience making, running, testing cables, performing loopbacks, installing equipment

Responsibilities

• Ensure availability, performance and testing of operational mission capabilities across IT and RF voice, video, data systems, networks and data feeds.
• Operate, maintain, test, analyze, troubleshoot and restore communications systems and services.
• Coordinate availability, performance and restoration efforts with 3rd party services providers as required.
• Set up, operate and train users on voice, video and data networks including radio and satellite systems.
• Make tactical decisions and take decisive action to ensure mission objectives.
• Manage dynamic taskings and prioritize workload to meet customer expectations.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to increase customer value.
• Coordinate installation efforts to meet schedules without disrupting ongoing operations.
• Ensure proper configuration and change management and system documentation are current.
• Travel as needed to support evolving customer requirements or surge demand.
• Receive highly specialized training on unique job responsibilities.

Job description

Purpose and Impact:

Amentum is currently seeking an Information Systems Watch Technician to join our dynamic team in the Arlington, VA area. In this position you’ll be a part of a team that maintains and supports our customer’s facility by ensuring that the telecommunications systems are fully functional and available for the senior leader’s decision support teams. This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

Work Schedule:

Work is performed on a 12-hour shift, scheduled on a rotational basis among communications support team members including nights, weekends and holidays in support of 24/7/365 operations. You will work seven (7) 12-hour shifts over a two-week period. Typically, there are 3 shifts in one week and 4 shifts in the next week, the shift schedule is created a30-60 days in advance.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Responsible for availability, performance and testing of operational mission capabilities under varying conditions including various IT and RF based voice, video, data systems, networks, services, and information feeds.
• Operate, maintain, test, analyze, troubleshoot, and restore communications systems and services. Coordinate availability, performance and/or restoration efforts with 3rd party services providers as required.
• Apply knowledge, training, and expertise to determine appropriate operational course of action and best solution set to implement under varying events and conditions, brief customer on operational status.
• Set up operate and train users on various voice, video and data networks including radio systems, satellite systems, network architecture and distribution systems.
• Make tactical decisions and take decisive action in stressed environments to ensure mission objectives are met.
• Manage dynamic taskings and prioritize workload to meet customer expectations and demand levels under changing situational conditions.
• Identify and recommend process improvements, efficiency gains and innovative approaches to operations and service delivery to increase customer value.
• Work with customers to determine operational requirements for future system capabilities; support the design, planning and testing of new systems to meet customer needs; ensure new systems are properly installed and brought on-line for operational use; coordinate installation team efforts to ensure schedules are met and activities are not disruptive to ongoing operations.
• Ensure proper configuration and change management control are applied and system documentation is current.
• Successful candidates will receive highly specialized training on unique job responsibilities.
• Position requires travel or response to alternate locations in support of evolving customer requirements or surge demand.
• Travel as needed (5%).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Candidate will be required to: carry up to 50 lbs, sit for extended periods of time at a computer workstation, work under desks and raised floor and climb ladders to repair/replace devices and organize the cable management.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance is required withadjudication within the last 5 years or designated CEand the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.
• Three to Five (3-5) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Experience setting up and troubleshooting circuits and equipment.
• Experience making, running, testing cables, performing loopbacks, installing equipment.
• Experience using VTC equipment.

Security Clearance Required:

• TS/SCI - This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

Minimum Years of Experience:

• 3 Years

Required Certifications:

• CompTIA IT Security+ Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four (4) years of college in a related technical discipline plus Ten (10) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CompTIA IT Security+ Certification must be obtained within 6 months.
• Experience as a Network and /or Systems Administrator
• Experience at an IT Help Desk / Customer Service Center
• Operational work experience in a military communications career field
• Understanding of the mid-range computer hardware, software features
• Training experience - someone we can trust to be able to adequately explain the setup and troubleshooting processes of our equipment.
