Job summary

The Oregon Department of Agriculture is seeking a Systems Administrator (ISS6) for a hybrid, full-time, 8-month rotation position in Salem, Oregon. You will help administer enterprise infrastructure including Azure, 365, Entra ID, and Windows Server, while coordinating with vendors and MSPs.

Minimum qualifications include 5 years of systems administration experience or 3 years with an associate degree and a year of related work, or a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience administering computer networks, servers, and business systems OR three (3) years of experience with an associate degree and one year experience OR a bachelor's degree with one year experience.
  • Experience administering cloud-hosted systems, servers, identity services and business applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and modern endpoint management solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support ODA's Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server, and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot systems to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing technology services.
  • Manage identity, access, endpoint management, and security solutions across the agency.
  • Coordinate with vendors and MSPs to deliver infrastructure improvements and modernization projects.
  • Document systems and procedures and provide technical guidance to IT staff and users.

Join the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) as a Systems Administrator (ISS6) – 8 month Job Rotation or Limited Duration position. This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before June 30, 2027. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. We may also fill this position as a rotational assignment open to current State of Oregon employees. Rotation candidates are required to meet the position’s minimum qualifications. You must have your manager's approval before applying for this assignment. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference. The Systems Administrator (ISS6), is a rotational full-time position located in Salem, Oregon. This position is a hybrid position and you will be expected to report to the Salem headquarters as needed.

As a Systems Administrator, you will work as a part of the IT team to ensure systems are always available to working for all Aggies and the farmers and ranchers they support.

Key areas of responsibility
  • Administer and support ODA's Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server, and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot systems to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing technology services.
  • Manage identity, access, endpoint management, and security solutions across the agency.
  • Partner with Enterprise Information Services (EIS), vendors, and project teams to deliver infrastructure improvements and technology modernization projects.
  • Document systems and procedures while providing technical guidance and support to IT staff and agency users.
  • Success in this role requires the ability to coordinate technical work through vendors, managed service providers, and statewide technology partners while maintaining accountability for outcomes.

  • Experience supporting and administering enterprise infrastructure, including cloud-hosted systems, servers, identity services, and business applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and modern endpoint management solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, evaluate options, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience administering identity and access management solutions and applying security best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships with users, vendors, managed service providers, and technology partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Minimum qualifications
  • five (5) years of experience administering computer networks, servers, and business systems OR three (3) years of experience administering computer networks, servers, and business systems and an associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field OR a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field AND one (1) year of experience administering computer networks, servers, and business systems.
