Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking an information security professional to serve as the ISSO for multiple tactical information systems at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport. You will oversee security operations, enforce policies, and guide cybersecurity compliance while coordinating with the ISSM on development and testing.

The role requires hands-on security management, asset inventory oversight, SOP development, and timely remediation of vulnerabilities, with training and documentation as ongoing

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting security and IT systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • Active Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
  • Proficient with firewall administration, IDS, anti-virus, and encryption.
  • Strong information security knowledge and regulatory awareness.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience briefing executives and IPT leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as program ISSO for tactical information systems and data enclaves.

  • Provide cybersecurity guidance to maintain cyber compliance.
  • Interface between program and ISSM to support development/testing.
  • Manage inventory of enclave assets for software compatibility.

  • Ensure operations stay in compliance with Authority to Operate.
  • Perform system and network self-inspections.
  • Coordinate security reviews for test plans.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities with system administrators.
  • Ensure users are trained, have access requests, and documentation.

Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMSis an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Engineering & Analysis, Test & Evaluation, and Training.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the program Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for several tactical information systems and data analysis enclaves at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport.
  • Oversee day-to-day security operations and enforce security policies among system administrators, developers, and operators.
  • Provide cybersecurity expertise to guide the program toward and maintain cyber compliance.
  • Act as the primary interface between the program and the Command Information System Security Manager (ISSM) to support ongoing development and testing efforts.
  • Manage inventory of enclave computing assets, ensuring devices are compatible with required software and performance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and cybersecurity compliance artifacts.
  • Enforce the program change management plan, ensuring proposed changes are documented, tested, and integrated into the applicable cybersecurity accreditation.
  • Ensure system operations remain in compliance with the Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Perform system and network self-inspections.
  • Provide security coordination and review for all system test plans.
  • Coordinate with system administrators to ensure accurate and timely remediation of vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure system users are current on all required training, access request forms, security clearances, and documentation applicable to their roles.
  • Participate in routine program meetings briefing leadership on key areas such as system architecture development, personnel access, and security concerns.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience supporting security and information technology systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • At least Active Secret security clearance (TS/SCI is preferred)
  • Proficient in firewall administration, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, and data encryption
  • In-depth knowledge of information security principles and practices.
  • Experience with security compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Adept at briefing executives andprogram IPT level leadership.

Certifications:

  • Must possess an active DoW 8140/8570.01-M baseline certification at IAM Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CISSP, or CISM).
  • Candidates without IAM Level II on day one may be considered if they currently meetIAT Level IIand can obtain an IAM Level II certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $120,000.00/Yr. - USD $145,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
