Job summary

Viasat is seeking an Information System Security Officer to safeguard complex DoD/IC systems. You will apply RMF, NIST, and ICD503 frameworks, lead vulnerability assessments, and document actions in compliance tracking systems across multiple programs.

The role requires active Top Secret with SCI eligibility, DoD 8570.1/8140.01 certifications, and travel up to 10%. You will collaborate with IA professionals to maintain secure configurations and respond to incidents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years as an Information System Security Officer in a DoD/IC or similar program.
• Understanding of DoD 8500 series, NIST 800 series, ICD503, and RMF.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure information system compliance across programs.
• Serve as SME in Information Assurance and provide solutions to complex problems.
• Document compliance actions and plan mitigations for non‑compliance.
• Participate in security audits and risk assessments.
• Develop procedures for configuration management of security-relevant IS software/hardware/firmware.

What You’ll Do

• Keep our systems, technology, and employees safe as a member of the Information Assurance team.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert in Information Assurance and provide innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Work independently and with a team of Information Assurance professionals to ensure information system compliance across multiple business areas or programs.
• Assess, document, and recommend controls based on RMF, NISPOM and other NISP regulatory requirements, and record implementation in the Security Controls Tractability Matrix.
• Document compliance actions within the authorized automated compliance tracking system or develop a Plan of Actions and Milestones to address non‑compliance.
• Participate in internal and external security audits and inspections, perform risk assessments and continuous monitoring.
• Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with the governing authority approved authorization package and customer directives.
• Develop procedures and documentation to ensure compliance with Configuration Management for security‑relevant IS software, hardware, and firmware.
• Take corrective actions, follow up, and ensure resolution of incidents or vulnerabilities.
• Assess and revise policies and procedures to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 3years as an Information System Security Officer in a DoD, IC, or other industrial security program.
• In‑depth understanding of DoD 8500 series, NIST 800 series, ICD503, Joint Special Access Program Implementation Guide, and the DoD Risk Management Framework.
• Experience with vulnerability and compliance scanning tools (Nessus, SCAP, ACAS).
• Familiarity with network technologies (LAN & WAN) and best practices in a classified environment, including crypto and key management.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and system virtualization in a secure network environment.
• Strong written communication and organizational skills.
• Interpersonal skills to work courteously and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to work well under pressure and possess advanced problem‑solving skills.
• Possess a current DoD 8570.1/DoD 8140.01 certification (Security CE).
• Minimum Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Compensation

Salary ranges from $93,500 to $148,000 annually, or $112,000 to $168,000 for select Bay Area and New York City locations. Compensation may also include cash or stock incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
