Job summary

Bessemer Trust is seeking an Information Reporting Lead Analyst to join the Data & Tax Operations team in Port Reading, NJ. This role oversees nonresident alien withholding and Form 1042-S reporting, with secondary responsibility for domestic 1099 reporting.

You will apply deep 1042-S and tax knowledge to drive process improvements, automation, and data quality while ensuring regulatory compliance across cross‑functional partners.

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years financial services operations experience with nonresident withholding and 1042-S reporting.
  • Deep knowledge of 1042-S, FATCA withholding rules, and W-8 documentation validation.
  • Experience with Form 1099 series reporting is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel; SQL/VBA a plus.

Job description

Bessemer Trust is seeking an Information Reporting Lead Analyst to join the Data & Tax Operations team. This role is responsible for overseeing the firm's nonresident alien withholding and information reporting function under Form 1042‑S, with secondary responsibility for domestic information reporting (Forms 1099, 1099‑R, and 5498). The successful candidate will combine deep 1042‑S and nonresident withholding tax expertise with a strong focus on process improvement, automation, data quality, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own year-end Form 1042‑S reporting end-to-end, ensuring compliance with IRS nonresident alien withholding and reporting requirements, including withholding rate determination, treaty benefit validation, and monitoring related regulatory developments.
  • Serve as the firm's subject matter expert on Chapter 3/Chapter 4 (FATCA) withholding, documentation requirements (Forms W‑8), and nonresident client tax reporting matters.
  • Support 1099 series year-end reporting as a secondary responsibility, ensuring compliance with domestic IRS reporting requirements.
  • Lead tax-related reconciliations, data validation, issue resolution, and control activities to ensure 1042‑S reporting accuracy and operational integrity.
  • Drive automation and process transformation initiatives that improve scalability, data quality, operational efficiency, and control effectiveness, leveraging firm‑approved analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence tools.
  • Provide guidance on the tax reporting implications of corporate actions, income distributions, and other complex client events, with particular attention to cross‑border and nonresident withholding considerations.
  • Partner across business, operations, technology, and external stakeholders to support 1042‑S reporting initiatives, resolve complex issues, and provide tax reporting guidance to internal partners and clients.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, testing, and strategic initiatives impacting tax operations.
Qualifications
  • 5-7+ years of financial services operations experience, with significant expertise in non‑resident alien withholding and Form 1042‑S reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Form 1042‑S, Chapter 3/Chapter 4 (FATCA) withholding rules, tax treaty benefits, Form W‑8 documentation validation, and IRS reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Form 1099 series reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with working knowledge of SQL and VBA (a plus).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across a diverse stakeholder group.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supporting operational risk, controls, audit, or regulatory examinations, particularly related to nonresident withholding.
  • Experience with FIS Wall Street Concepts (WSC), FIS Global Plus, Salesforce, Jira, PL/SQL, and automation technologies, including robotic process automation (RPA) and firm‑approved artificial intelligence tools.
  • Active participation in industry organizations such as SIFMA.

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 per year. This range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. In addition, this position may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, and other compensation programs as applicable. Eligible employees may participate in a 401(k) program with a generous profit‑sharing contribution, medical, prescription dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; disability coverage; paid holidays; vacation; and sick time, subject to plan terms and Company policies.
