The Department of Informatics and Health Data Science (DIHDS), Media Innovation Lab (MIL) at the University of Miami is ushering in a new age of healthcare investigation, innovation, and improvement. The Research Assistant Professor will serve as the MIL site expert in bioinformatics, setting the strategic vision for the group, leading development of data analysis approaches, and implementing bioinformatics methodologies to support the needs of the DIHDS/MIL research team. Faculty members are required to actively support the department chair and lead research, educational/mentorship, and service outreach, policy, and ethical initiatives related to informatics, digital technology, and health data science.
Candidate must possess a strong computational and quantitative biology background, broad understanding of key biological concepts, and significant experience in software and database engineering enabling integrated understanding of biological data analysis. Extensive experience with analysis of large datasets generated by next generation sequencing is encouraged. Preference for candidates with a strong record of accomplishments in bioinformatics, including developing innovative tools and applications, providing bioinformatics support, and a strong publication record.
Standard office and laboratory conditions with occasional exposure to mild hazards. No requirement for extreme heat or cold, high noise levels, or hazardous materials. Work typically involves sitting, standing, and walking. Ability to handle research equipment and maintain experimental setups.
