Job summary

Sanford Health in Sioux Falls seeks an Infection Prevention professional to join the Quality team. You will work with Infection Prevention and Control staff to meet program goals and improve patient and staff safety.

The role involves monitoring infection trends, providing education, and supporting performance improvement across the enterprise, with opportunities to gain broad exposure to diverse healthcare functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Associate’s degree + 5 years experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • RN degree candidates should graduate from an accredited nursing program (CCNE/ACEN/NLN CNEA).
  • Minimum of two years in clinical/nursing/healthcare safety/infection prevention or healthcare management.
  • CIC certification preferred.
  • Licensed RN may require unencumbered RN license and NLC considerations.
  • Maintain department competencies and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and reportable illness.
  • Evaluate statistical information and provide educational programs.
  • Contribute to asepsis, disinfection, sterilization, isolation and infection control.
  • Monitor compliance with standards/regulations and participate in performance improvement.
  • Assist with research needs and data collection/analysis.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills and willingness to learn.

Work collaboratively with Infection Prevention and Control staff under leadership, to accomplish the goals and objective of the Infection Prevention program.

Job Description

Evaluation of infection control trends, practices, and provide educational programs for employees.

Possess a basic understanding and working knowledge of microbiology and epidemiology.

Responsibilities include surveillance of health care associated infections and reportable illness, evaluation and reporting of statistical information, consultation of asepsis, disinfection, sterilization, isolation, disease transmission and related issues.

Monitors compliance standards and regulations, strategies, and evidence-based aspects.

Evaluates and improves performance of patient/resident outcomes.

Assists with research needs and special projects are assigned.

Understand or be willing to learn computer programs and applications necessary for data collection and analysis.

Possess good interpersonal skills as well as willingness to seek out new information and knowledge.

Able to think critically and problem solve effectively.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

In lieu of education, leadership may consider an Associate’s degree and 5 years of applicable experience.

If degree is in nursing, graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).

Minimum of two years experience in clinical, nursing, healthcare safety, infection prevention, accreditation or healthcare management setting required.

Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC®) or equivalent preferred.

If a licensed registered nurse (RN), currently hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.

Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
