Job summary

McPherson Center for Health is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to oversee all infection control activities, perform surveillance and risk assessments, and ensure regulatory compliance. This full-time, day-shift role includes responsibility for developing training, updating policies, and leading committee activities to improve patient safety.

The position requires an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a minimum of 3 years in healthcare, preferably in infection control.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in healthcare, preferred infection control nurse.
  • Nursing, Teaching/Training skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement infection control orientation programs.
  • Develop and enforce infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate annual PPE training development and delivery.
  • Lead infection control training sessions for staff.
  • Apply epidemiological principles to infection prevention strategies.
  • Perform OSHA risk assessments annually and as needed.
  • Notify County/State Health Department of reportable diseases.
  • Advance patient care procedures related to infection control and quality.
  • Lead and coordinate Infection Control QAPI activities and committee meetings.
  • Participate in hospital committees (Antimicrobial Stewardship, QAPI, Safety).
  • Complete infection surveillance activities for the facility.

Infection Control Nurse Essential Accountabilities:

  • Will be required to establish and implement infection control orientation programs.

  • Responsible for policies and procedures within the organization related to infection control.

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of annual PPE training.

  • Develops and leads training sessions (infection control, protective equipment)

  • Use epidemiological principles and statistical methods to design, implement and evaluate infection prevention and control strategies.

  • Conducts OSHA risk assessments at least annually and as needed with consideration of served populations, regional vulnerabilities, relevant statistical data, and new and emerging infectious diseases along with Employee Health Provider.

  • Notify the County and/or State Health Department of any reportable diseases, adhering to all internal county and state procedures.

  • Develop and implement continuously improved patient care procedures and control mechanisms relating to quality, compliance, and infectious diseases.

  • Participate in infection prevent and control education of all employees during orientation and annually.

  • Ensure the infection prevention and control procedures meet CMS, county and state, CDC regulations.

  • Organize Infection Prevention and Control Committee meetings and maintain all meeting minutes.

  • Completes infection prevention surveillance activities for the facility.

Infection Control Nurse Department Specific Accountabilities:

  • Assist with annual reviews of quality performance.

  • Report data as required by CMS and NHSN guidelines.

  • Conduct surveillance of McPherson Center for Health patients

  • Lead & coordinate Infection Control QAPI activities for McPherson Center for Health

  • Lead & coordinate Infection Control Committee meetings

  • Participates in McPherson Center for Health committees (i.e., Antimicrobial Stewardship, QAPI, Safety, etc.)

Infection Control Nurse Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years experience in healthcare, preferred experience as an infection control nurse

  • Skills:

    • Nursing, Teaching/Training skills

  • License/ Certification:

    • Licensed Registered Nurse

Infection Control Nurse Physical Working Conditions:

  • Sitting- 50% of the time

  • Walking/standing- 50% of the time
