Job summary

AMAX in Fremont, CA is seeking an Industrial PLC & Safety Controls Engineer to design, program, and validate industrial electrical control and safety systems. You will work with PLCs, safety relays, and PCB-based interfaces while ensuring SIL 3 compliance.

The role requires hands-on experience with Siemens/Allen-Bradley/Beckhoff platforms, electrical CAD tools, and embedded C/C++ development. On-site in Fremont offers a collaborative hardware-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on PLC programming, electrical control panel design, assembly, and commissioning.
• Demonstrated SIL 3 safety requirements experience, including architectures, diagnostics, verification, and validation.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety circuits, interlocks, emergency-stop systems, and power switching.

Responsibilities

• Design PLC-based control and functional safety circuits meeting SIL 3 requirements.
• Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
• Select and integrate electrical components such as contactors, relays, circuit breakers, power supplies, and safety devices.
• Program and configure PLCs and safety PLCs, including interlocks, diagnostics, and fault handling.
• Build, wire, troubleshoot, and commission electrical control panels.
• Develop schematics and PCB layouts for microcontroller-based control systems and interfaces.
• Assemble and bring up PCB prototypes; perform hardware debugging and verify circuit performance.
• Develop embedded firmware and interfaces (I2C, SPI).
• Perform functional and safety testing; document designs, tests, and results.
• Ensure IEC 60204-1, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, NFPA 79 compliance.
