Job summary

Scientific Applications & Research Associates (SARA), Inc. is seeking an Industrial Security Specialist to support the Colorado Springs location. The role focuses on enforcing regulatory guidelines, maintaining PERSEC records, and handling clearance processing using DISS, NBIS, and SWFT.

The candidate will collaborate with intercompany personnel, DCSA reps, and customers to ensure robust security programs. Requirements include a high school diploma, 3–4 years in cleared DoD environments,

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3–4 years of experience in cleared DoD environments (or relevant education/certification).
  • Familiarity with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM), DoD manuals, and ICDs.
  • US Citizen with active Secret clearance and ability to maintain clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the FSO in managing all aspects of the Industrial Security Program.
  • Conduct employee onboarding and maintain PERSEC records.
  • Utilize DISS, NBIS, and SWFT for clearance processing.
  • Conduct security awareness training, briefings, and debriefings.
  • Manage VARs and support meetings.
  • Comply with NISPOM and SEAD 3 reporting requirements.
  • Safeguard classified materials: handling, storage, transmission, destruction.
  • Support the Insider Threat Program and incident management.
  • Investigate and document security violations and mitigation efforts.
  • Identify deficiencies and apply corrective actions.
  • Support SETA program compliance and security inspections.
  • Oversee media lifecycle management and inventory reconciliation.
  • Assist with visitor and access control and with ICD-705 facility build-out.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and collaborate with DCSA reps and customers.

SARA is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and experienced Industrial Security Specialist to support activities out of our Colorado Springs location. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers.

The Industrial Security Specialist will be responsible for providing support to the FSO in enforcing regulatory guidelines and established policies, including but not limited to company procedures, contractual requirements, the 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), DoD Manuals, and ICDs.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Assist the FSO in managing all aspects of the Industrial Security Program
  • Conduct employee onboarding and maintain personnel security (PERSEC) records
  • Utilize Defense Information System for Security (DISS), National Background Investigations Services (NBIS), and Secure Web Fingerprint Transmissions (SWFT) for clearance processing
  • Conduct security awareness training, briefings, and debriefings
  • Manage visit authorization requests (VARs) and support meetings
  • Comply with NISPOM and SEAD 3 reporting requirements
  • Safeguard classified materials: proper handling, storage, transmission, and destruction
  • Support the Insider Threat Program and incident management
  • Investigate and document security violations and mitigation efforts
  • Identify deficiencies and apply corrective or preventative actions
  • Support annual security education training and awareness (SETA) program compliance
  • Participate in self-inspections, security compliance inspections, and audits
  • Oversee media lifecycle management
  • Conduct inventory reconciliation ensuring accuracy and accountability
  • Assist with visitor and access control
  • Manage standard form 701s,702s, and related facility documentation
  • Cover reception desk as needed
  • Collaborate effectively with intercompany personnel, DCSA reps, and customers
  • Assist with build-out of an ICD-705 compliant facility
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Other duties as required
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3 – 4 years of experience in cleared DoD environments (or relevant education/certification in lieu of experience)
  • Familiarity with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM), DoD manuals, and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Process improvement skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • US Citizen with active Secret clearance and the ability to maintain clearance
  • May require light physical effort involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 – 5 years of relevant experience
  • AFSO or Industrial Security Specialist experience
  • Proficiency utilizing DISS, NBIS, and SWFT

Pay Range

Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $58,000 to $70,000 (annual USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
