Amentum is seeking an Industrial Safety Subject Matter Expert to support the WTP Worker Safety & Health Program at the Hanford site. You will implement, maintain, and interpret the safety program, draft plans, and provide field safety support to projects, subcontractors, and site personnel.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

Under General Supervision of the Industrial Safety Manager, the Industrial Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be responsible to support the WTP mission and implementation of the WTP Worker Safety & Health Program.

The successful Industrial Safety SME will be responsible for implementation, maintenance, and interpretation of the industrial safety program and procedures. Your knowledge and experience will contribute to a diversely talented and synergetic team of Safety professionals. The successful candidate should be prepared to engage fully with their work and team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

• Provide technical support to the industrial safety program, self-assessments and interpretation of applicable codes and standards.

• Coordinate appropriate consideration of safety requirements with subcontracts, engineering, construction, and startup, personnel as assigned.

• Provide safety technical support and assistance to projects and coordinate safety requirements and formulation of risk reduction measures with project-assigned safety personnel, engineering, construction, startup, and onsite S&H representatives.

• Draft comprehensive S&H programs, plans, project specific risk reduction plans, safety awareness training programs, and technical reports.

• Provide recommendations and input for revising safety procedures, work processes, and other quality improvement measures.

• Be flexible in performing other duties and working with other departments (e.g., training, emergency response activities) as directed by the Project S&H Manager or designee.

• Conduct safety inspections/assessments of project activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and the project’s S&H plan.

• Provide industrial safety field support of operations, maintenance and construction activities.

• When in supervisory role, implement personnel policies (e.g., conduct employee performance evaluations) and provide technical direction to staff.

As Subject Matter Expert you will require advanced knowledge and experience in:

• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards CFR 1910 and CFR 1926.

• Industrial safety risk assessment, corrective action, controls, and the surveillance of related safety measures and requirements.

• Safety and health protection policies, practices, and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Common and unique work hazards, occupational safety practices, operating configuration, and policies and practices.

• Conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

• Preparing written reports incorporating findings, risk assessments, and recommended corrective actions.

• Communication of major, complex elements of industrial safety to technical and non-technical personnel.

• Preparation and presentation of industrial safety technical reports.

• The ability to evaluate hazard controls (e.g., personal equipment (PPE), engineering controls, and work practices) and recommend improvements or new controls to eliminate or reduce hazards.

• The ability to develop, review, and evaluate site‑specific safety/ health programs and requirements.

• Leading development of and conducting industrial/safety training programs.

• Statistical analysis techniques for trend identification.

• The ability to promote professional relationships between and among other Subject Matter Expert in other disciplines.

Education

Bachelors degree in occupational health & health, environmental science, biology, chemistry, Engineering, Program Management or a related field from an accredited University.

Experience

9+ years of progressive, related experience. In lieu of a degree, 15 years of progressive, related experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced skills in oral and written communications.

• Advanced knowledge of OSHA standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.

• Experience in managing and preparing safety and health programs, procedures and plans.

• Advanced knowledge of construction planning, procedures, and work execution.

• Proficient knowledge of software applications creating spreadsheets with mathematical functions and enhancing presentation reports.

• Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of safety and/or health for subcontractors or consultants.

• Advanced knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a government, nuclear, chemical processing, petroleum refining, industrial, or EPC environments.

• Experience working within the Hanford worksite, Department of Energy project environment.

• Knowledge of People Based Safety processes and procedures.

• Possess valid CSP accreditation by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(SHNM-ISH) Safety & Health Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer, etc. in support of line management safety and health needs. Review and generation of Safety and Health reports, records, etc. Development/management of Safety and Health process/procedure, training, metrics, etc. Perform Safety and Health surveillances and assessments.

Records generation, instrumentation and equipment management, and other industrial safety/hygiene functions. Oversights and mentors Line Management and workers on the implementation of industrial safety/hygiene hazard controls. Responds to events providing injury/illness response, monitoring of conditions, etc. Hazard analysis and control determinations in support of project work activities. And conducts oversight and monitoring during work task performance to verify that exposure control mechanisms are sufficient to protect workers.

• The primary shift worked will be a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this position may require shift work (rotating 4 x 12 schedule 5:30am to 5:30pm) including night shift to support plant operations

• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentumvisa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
