Job Title: Industrial Project Engineer

Job Description

The Regional Industrial Project Engineer supports multiple manufacturing facilities by providing engineering expertise for facility infrastructure, utility systems, capital projects, equipment installations, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering teams to enhance facility reliability, efficiency, safety, and long-term growth across the region. The position requires regular travel between sites to oversee projects and support plant teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support and optimize facility systems including electrical, HVAC, compressed air, water, wastewater, natural gas, and fire protection systems.

  • Lead and support capital projects, including facility upgrades, equipment installations, and plant expansions from concept through commissioning.

  • Develop and refine facility layouts to improve flow, safety, and efficiency, and ensure layouts align with operational requirements.

  • Review engineering drawings and specifications and maintain accurate and up-to-date engineering documentation for all assigned facilities and projects.

  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective project execution.

  • Manage project budgets and schedules, track implementation milestones, and report on progress to stakeholders.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve facility reliability, efficiency, energy usage, and operating costs.

  • Support root cause investigations for equipment and facility issues, develop corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure projects and facility operations comply with OSHA, EPA, FDA, BRCGS, and applicable local regulations and standards.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering teams to align project scopes with business needs and long-term growth plans.

  • Participate in commissioning activities, verify system performance against design requirements, and support handover to plant teams.

  • Contribute engineering expertise to facility infrastructure planning, utility system design, and maintenance strategies.

  • Provide regional support by traveling between facilities to assess needs, monitor projects, and offer on-site engineering guidance.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Technical degree with an engineering focus strongly preferred.

  • 2-8+ years of engineering experience within manufacturing, industrial, or food processing environments.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience working with capital equipment and capital projects.

  • Experience supporting facility infrastructure, utilities, maintenance, or capital projects in a plant environment.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Experience managing contractors, coordinating external service providers, and overseeing project budgets.

  • Familiarity with facility layout development and optimization for manufacturing or industrial operations.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software for reviewing and working with engineering drawings (preferred).

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.

  • Ability to travel approximately 25-40% between regional facilities to support projects and operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in food and beverage processing environments is a strong plus.

  • Industrial engineering experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards such as OSHA, EPA, FDA, and BRCGS.

  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and best practices to facility and utility systems.

  • Comfort working across multiple sites and balancing competing priorities in a regional role.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project outcomes.

Work Environment

This role operates across multiple manufacturing facilities and involves a mix of office-based engineering work and time spent on the plant floor. The work environment includes exposure to production areas, utility systems such as electrical, HVAC, compressed air, water, wastewater, natural gas, and fire protection systems, and active construction or installation zones during capital projects and plant expansions. The engineer collaborates regularly with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering teams and works closely with contractors and vendors. Travel between facilities, estimated at approximately 25-40%, is required to oversee projects, support commissioning activities, and provide on-site technical guidance. Work hours generally follow standard business schedules, with flexibility needed to support project timelines, commissioning events, and critical facility activities. Appropriate professional and safety attire is expected when working in office and plant environments, including adherence to site-specific safety gear requirements in production and utility areas.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52.88 - $62.50/hr.
