Job summary

The City of Nampa is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Technician I for the Water Renewal Facility to ensure safe, efficient plant operation. You will perform mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance under supervision and build effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of maintenance experience; position is full-time, non-visa eligible, with a 4/10 work schedule and competitive benefits.

  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Water Renewal Facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs on pumps, boiler, blower, and related equipment to maintain wastewater flow.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance at scheduled intervals and replace worn parts.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and inventory levels.
  • Operate hand/power tools and equipment including welder, forklift, and backhoe.
  • Train new employees on basic work tasks as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The principal function of an employee in this class is to maintain, service, and repairs a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts and equipment at the City's Water Renewal Facility to ensure safe and efficient plant operation. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the maintenance supervisor. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a wastewater treatment plant environment, which includes exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme heights, and dangerous machinery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs a variety of basic repairs of mechanical, electrical, and electronic parts and equipment of the Wastewater Plant, including repairing pumps, boiler, blower, and other related equipment to maintain the flow process of the City's sewer system.
  • Performs a variety of preventive maintenance of plant equipment at scheduled time intervals as required, including checking belts, bearings, seal leaks, changing oil and lubricants, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts as necessary.
  • Provides basic maintenance and repair of electrical components on plant equipment, including troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, as necessary.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including maintaining records of work orders, used parts, stock items, and labor hours as required.
  • Maintains an efficient inventory of necessary parts and equipment to ensure efficient plant operations and cost efficiency.
  • Performs tests of equipment following maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment as required.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools, and other maintenance related vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to welder, cutting torch, backhoe, forklift, and hydro cleaner truck.
  • Performs a variety of basic plant actives as requested.
  • Provide needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • May operate a semi-truck and trailer or dump truck to haul biosolids offsite if licensed to do so.
  • May operate a semi-truck and trailer or dump truck to move material onsite.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Must live with a thirty-minute response time from the Water Renewal Facility.
  • At least 1 year of experience as an Industrial Maintenance, or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of operation of pumps, motors, and other related industrial plant equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of the necessary safety measures precautions that must be observed when working in a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Ability to efficiently operated and repair wastewater service-related equipment as required, including hand and power tools, vehicle and related machines and equipment.
  • Ability to efficiently perform required tasks from the direction of blueprints, diagrams, civil drawings and sketches.
  • Ability to efficiently perform accurate mathematical computations as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard and customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
  • Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
