Job summary

Mentor Technical Group is seeking a mechanical technician to diagnose, repair and maintain industrial machinery at our Caguas, PR site. The role focuses on troubleshooting equipment, disassembling and reassembling components, inspecting for wear, and ensuring safe operation within a regulated environment.

Ideal candidates have an industrial mechanic background or equivalent, with hands-on experience, safety awareness, and the ability to read blueprints and manuals.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Industrial Mechanic or technical mechanical field.
  • High school diploma with 3 years mechanical experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose equipment problems by analyzing test results and error messages.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Disassemble and repair machinery components.
  • Inspect parts for defects and excessive wear.
  • Test machinery operation with voltmeters and other devices.
  • Verify repairs by operating and reassembling machinery.
  • Study blueprints and manuals to determine correct operation.
  • Follow safety and quality standards while performing duties.
  • Uphold company values and provide reliable service.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained in order to diagnose equipment problems.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
  • Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.
  • Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
  • Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
  • Study blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
  • Models company values and ethical behavior in all relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Assures the proper operation of a wide variety of mechanical machines and devices including pumps, engines, motors, conveyors, compressors, and laboratory equipment by observing mechanical machines in operation and listening to them to locate the source of malfunctions, lubricating and cleaning mechanical machines, dismantling the machines in order to repair or replace inoperative part such as belts, fans, motors, and pumps, and adjusting the machines to prescribed operating standards or performance rates.
  • Repairs existing structures according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tool requirements, and methods to be used, developing a plan or lay out for the project or following a blueprint, sketch or schematic, assembling, fabricating or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications Requirements/Knowledge/Education/Skills:
  • Associate Degree, Industrial Mechanic / Technical College Mechanical Degree
  • High school diploma with 3 years of Mechanical experience required or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate equipment, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear; sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 25-35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • He / she may frequently work inside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, exposed to wet and or humid conditions, and an odorous atmosphere, may be exposed to fumes and the risk of electrical shock, andoccasionally work on ladders in high places, in small spaces, such as lift/metering stations, manholes, tanks and wet wells. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
