Job summary

Vulcan Metals Specialty Products seeks an experienced Millwright to join our maintenance team at a heavy industrial facility. You will troubleshoot, repair, and install mechanical equipment used in casting, rolling mill, and finishing operations.

The work involves hydraulic and pneumatic systems, bearings, gearboxes, and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience, reads drawings, follows safety procedures, and can work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 5 years industrial mechanical maintenance or millwright experience.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and hydraulic schematics.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with bearings, gearboxes, pumps, cylinders, valves, and rotating equipment.
• Strong safety focus and knowledge of lockout/tagout.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and mechanical systems.

Millwright – Industrial Manufacturing

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Mechanic/Millwright to join our maintenance team at a heavy industrial manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing mechanical equipment used in casting, rolling mill and metal finishing manufacturing operations.

This position requires a mechanically skilled individual who can independently diagnose problems, understand how industrial equipment operates, and make sound decisions when equipment is down. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical power transmission, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, rolls, rotating equipment, and industrial machinery.

This is a hands‑on position in a demanding manufacturing environment where safety, reliability, workmanship, and troubleshooting ability are critical.

Primary Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication‑related equipment problems.
• Perform installation, alignment, repair, and replacement of pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, couplings, shafts, rolls, cylinders, valves, and other mechanical components.
• Troubleshoot and repair industrial hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, filters, piping, and associated controls.
• Perform precision equipment alignment using appropriate measuring and alignment tools.
• Remove, install, and align bearings, shafts, gearboxes, rolls, and other rotating equipment.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, equipment manuals, and parts drawings.
• Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other inspection tools.
• Perform welding, cutting, rigging, and fabrication as required for maintenance repairs.
• Safely operate cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material‑handling equipment when qualified.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
• Identify developing equipment problems and recommend corrective action before failures occur.
• Complete maintenance work orders and accurately document repairs and equipment conditions.
• Work closely with electricians, operators, supervisors, engineers, and other maintenance personnel to resolve equipment problems.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and production emergencies when required.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all company safety procedures.
• Participate in equipment improvement, reliability, and preventative‑maintenance initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance or millwright experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose problems rather than simply replace components.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and hydraulic schematics.
• Experience with bearings, gearboxes, couplings, shafts, pumps, cylinders, valves, and rotating equipment.
• Ability to safely rig and move heavy equipment.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a breakdown situation.
• Strong commitment to safety and proper lockout/tagout procedures.
• Ability to work in a hot, dirty, noisy, and physically demanding industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a steel, aluminum, rolling mill, casting, or other heavy manufacturing environment.
• Experience with hydraulic systems.
• Experience with industrial pumps and hydraulic power units.
• Experience with large gearboxes, roll systems, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience performing precision shaft, bearing, gearbox, and equipment alignment.
• Experience using hydraulic schematics and troubleshooting hydraulic circuits.
• Crane and rigging experience.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Physical Requirements

• Work on equipment in confined, elevated, and difficult‑to‑access areas.
• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in awkward positions.
• Lift and handle tools, equipment, and mechanical components.
• Work around operating industrial equipment and in areas with heat, noise, dust, oil, and other manufacturing conditions.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.
• Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency breakdowns as required by production needs.
