Job Description

This role focuses on hydraulic and mechanical maintenance and repair for industrial production equipment on 2nd shift. You will respond to real-time machine breakdowns, perform scheduled preventive maintenance, and ensure equipment and facility systems operate safely and efficiently. Electrical experience is helpful but not required; strong hydraulic and mechanical skills are the primary focus.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs to production machinery and plant equipment during operating hours, responding quickly to breakdowns and restoring equipment to service in real time.

  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities by following a predetermined preventive maintenance (PM) schedule.

  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial machines, including mechanical systems and rolling equipment, to minimize downtime and maintain smooth production operations.

  • Carry out basic facility maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing ballasts, and providing general office support as needed.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine required maintenance and service procedures.

  • Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic problems, identify faulty components, replace or repair parts, test equipment, and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.

  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment to perform maintenance and repair duties safely and effectively.

  • Detect faulty or unsafe operations, equipment conditions, or processes and promptly report these issues to appropriate supervision.

  • Comply with all safety regulations and help enforce safety standards across the facility, including proper use of tools and equipment.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and orderly work areas to support safe and efficient maintenance activities.

  • Manage, document, and record maintenance work using a computerized preventive maintenance and work request system, ensuring accurate and timely updates.

  • Support hydraulic troubleshooting, repairs, and installations on manufacturing equipment, focusing on system reliability and performance.

  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting on industrial machines, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and other mechanical systems.

  • Assist with electrical-related tasks such as 480V, 3-phase electrical wiring and basic electrical troubleshooting when needed, using appropriate tools and meters.

  • Operate man lifts and lift trucks safely to access equipment and areas required for maintenance and repair work.

Essential Skills
  • Several years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with pneumatics and hydraulics, including diagnosing issues and performing repairs on industrial machinery.

  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic troubleshooting, repairs, and installations on production equipment.

  • Ability to perform reactive maintenance and respond quickly to machine breakdowns in production, prioritizing real-time repairs over primarily preventive work.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, technical drawings, and work orders.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical troubleshooting on equipment up to 480-volt, 3-phase systems and the ability to troubleshoot using a multimeter.

  • Working knowledge of safety protocols such as Lock Out / Tag Out, Confined Space procedures, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and OSHA regulations.

  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment that utilizes hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and automated systems.

  • Proficiency in using hand tools and electrical tools for maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Capability to use electric meters and other diagnostic equipment to support troubleshooting activities.

  • Ability to operate man lifts and lift trucks safely in a production environment.

  • Competence in welding and general industrial maintenance repairs as part of equipment upkeep.

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and automation systems in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records in a computerized preventive maintenance and work request system.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in industrial machine repair and mechanical troubleshooting on rolling and other specialized equipment.

  • Familiarity with reactive maintenance environments where quick decision-making and problem-solving are critical.

  • Comfort working with automation and PLC-based systems, including basic troubleshooting and understanding of control schematics.

  • Ability to support general facility maintenance needs, including office-related tasks when required.

  • Strong attention to safety, with a proactive approach to identifying and reporting unsafe conditions or practices.

  • Ability to work independently on 2nd shift while maintaining clear communication and documentation of work performed.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple work orders and PM tasks using computerized systems.

  • Ability to adapt to evolving equipment, processes, and maintenance priorities in a growing manufacturing operation.
