Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance team, coordinate daily and long-term activities, and ensure safe, reliable plant operations. You will mentor technicians, manage budgets, and maintain OEM and vendor relationships while enforcing safety and environmental standards.

The role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, familiarity with CMMS, and ability to plan outages and document procedures.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a related field. May substitute degree for four to five years of maintenance experience, with leadership training.
• Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and assists with workload alongside maintenance crew, including training and mentoring.
• Monitor attendance and vacation, and disciplinary actions when needed.
• Inspect equipment for safety, productivity, and cost efficiency and ensure compliance with parameters.
• Track downtime and quality issues and perform preventive maintenance procedures.
• Plan daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual activities and repair outages.
• Complete daily CMMS and paper reports; file and organize work records.
• Investigate and document maintenance procedures; manage plant security, fire protection, and emergency generators.
• Research parts, compare pricing, schedule deliveries, and maintain spare parts inventory.
• Perform troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems; interpret MSDS and safety requirements.
• Maintain process knowledge of plant operations and coordinate with vendors as needed.
• Ensure proper start-up/shut-down for boiler, waste water systems, and related processes.
• Adhere to OSHA regulations and site safety policies.
• Other duties as assigned

Job description

1. Supervises and assists with workload alongside the maintenance crew including training and mentoring. Additionally, monitoring attendance and vacation, as well as taking disciplinary action when needed.

2. Safety

• Continuously inspecting equipment, ensuring it is safe, stays productive, cost effective, and within its parameters
• Ensuring that all employees are working in a safe environment and in a safe manner using all safety equipment

3. Equipment Reliability

• Tracking downtime and quality control issues
• Conducting failure mode analysis and determining preventive maintenance procedures
• Tracking production/productivity issues

4. R&M monthly budgeting, Capital Budget, etc.

5. Planning daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual activities and planning scheduled repair outages

7. Completing daily reports on the CMMS and hard copy

8. Filing and organizing quotes, work orders, operating checks, drawings, procedures, etc.

9. Investigating, researching, developing, and documenting procedures for equipment maintenance and breakdown repair. Maintain and operate plant security systems, fire protection systems, and emergency generator

10. Comparing part pricing, researching vendors, and ordering parts. Establishing delivery dates and scheduling, inventory, and maintaining control of adequate supply of spare parts

11. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Above average mathematical skills- addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic blueprints and schematics
• Above average understanding of process chemical flows with regards to acid, rinse water system, and waste water treatment system
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic breakdowns
• Ability to troubleshoot and start up drive systems
• Ability to interpret MSDS forms, organize, and coordinate “right-to-know” responsibilities
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot pickle line hydraulic system and compressed air system including piping, pumps, cylinders, and control valve sets
• Ability to sketch and design simple piping and electrical changes
• Knowledge of each operation/process available within the facility
• Knowledge of EPA regulations
• Knowledge of concentration test procedures required for raw acid, process acid, drawing lubricant, and coating oil testing
• Knowledge of Emergency Evacuation and Hazardous Material Spill Emergency Contingency Plan
• Knowledge of the drive system interlocks and start-up/shut-down procedures
• Knowledge of start-up/shut-down for the boiler, wet section, waste water treatment system, process water well system, and emergency generator system
• Knowledge of emergency and service representative contacts for gas, water, and electric utilities
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to repetitively reach and grasp
• Ability to frequently lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs
