Job summary

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is seeking an Insulator for the Pipe Shop, Production Resources Department. The role involves fabricating insulating sections for valves and fittings, performing asbestos sampling, and safely handling damaged insulation with appropriate PPE.

You will also guide lower-grade staff and ensure compliance with safety standards. The position requires passing a pre-employment physical, security clearance, and compliance with DoD/DoN requirements.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and process instructions.
• Experience insulating and fabricating sections for valves and fittings.
• Knowledge of safety and PPE requirements for asbestos-related work.
• Ability to plan and guide lower-grade employees.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate portable or removable insulation sections for valves and fittings.
• Take bulk samples to test asbestos content in insulation.
• Isolate, repair and clean up damaged asbestos insulation with proper PPE.
• Plan and develop guidance for lower grade employees.
