Bastion Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Hygienist (Lead & Asbestos) to oversee asbestos/lead disturbance activities and support a broad industrial hygiene program at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities include evaluating and controlling asbestos and lead exposure, conducting air and noise measurements, calibrating instruments, and assisting with occupational health plans, PPE assessments, and safety training to protect workers and facilities.

Qualifications

• This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
• Must be a CAC Certified Asbestos Consultant (Cal/OSHA) and certified as a Lead Inspector/Assessor (CDPH).
• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering with at least 3 years of related work experience; in lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience.
• Experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
• Knowledge of EHS software (e.g. Cority) is desirable.
• Certification as CSP is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Recognize, evaluate, sample and recommend controls regarding asbestos and/or lead based on regulations and NASA requirements. (This is a primary responsibility for this role)
• Support industrial hygiene programs under direct supervision of a Certified Industrial Hygienist
• Measure air velocity in fume hoods and local exhaust ventilation systems for hazard containment.
• Conduct noise measurements and develop noise reduction strategies.
• Conduct air sampling for hazardous chemicals.
• Calibrate industrial hygiene instruments.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing.
• Conduct industrial hygiene exposure assessments.
• Perform annual audits of shops, labs, and offices to support OSHA VPP certification.
• Consult on personal protective equipment assessments, provide training on occupational health topics, review chemical hygiene plans, laboratory safety plans, and design plans for new facilities.
• Provide recommendation and follow-on support for correcting deficiencies identified during assessments.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Industrial Hygienist (Lead & Asbestos) will support the space program located in NASA Ames Research Center. Provide oversight of maintenance, construction, and building demolition activities that involve disturbance of materials that contain asbestos and/or lead. Supports other industrial hygiene activities such as chemical exposure monitoring, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, chemical hazard communication, confined space entry, gas detection, biohazards, lead, asbestos, mold, mercury, regulated carcinogens, compressed gases, indoor air quality, chemical hygiene (laboratory safety), hazard control ventilation, sanitation (food safety) inspections, nanomaterials, ergonomics, and other hygiene programs required to ensure employee safety and health in an industrial research environment.

REQUIRED

• This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Must be a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) Certified by the State of CA (Cal OSHA) and certified as a Lead Inspector/Assessor by California Department of Public Health.
• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of science or engineering with a minimum of 3 years of recent and related work experience.
• In lieu of degree: Candidates with a minimum 7 years of recent and related experience will be considered.
• Must have experience writing and reviewing technical reports.

DESIRED

• Previous experience working for or with a U.S. federal government agency.
• Knowledge of EHS software (e.g. Cority)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BSCP)

WORK LOCATION

• This position offers a hybrid work schedule; some travel may be required.

SALARY RANGE

$129,000 to $139,000 salary will depend on education and experience.
