Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an IH technician to support mining operations in Colorado. You will collect air and environmental samples, perform exposure assessments, and assist in audits and incident investigations.

You will help ensure compliance with OSHA/MSHA standards and maintain sampling equipment while collaborating with safety teams to propose remedial actions and improve site safety practices.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of industry experience including relevant H&S and/or analytical experience; H&S examples: emergency response team, crew safety leader, safety committee member.
• Analytical examples: lab technician, sample collection, quality assurance / quality control; includes one (1) year as H&S technician, IH technician, laboratory/environmental technician, or related work; OR
• Associates degree in a related field and no experience

Responsibilities

• Collect industrial hygiene samples of air, vapors, gases, dust, fumes and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
• Perform exposure assessments, analyses of procedures, audits and incident investigations.
• Develop knowledge of Company, OSHA, MSHA and other regulatory standards.

• Develop and recommend remedial actions in response to unsafe conditions.

Where You Will Work

Our Henderson mine and mill are an hour drive apart - separated by the Continental Divide and a 15-mile conveyor system (10 miles underground). The Henderson mine is an underground molybdenum mining operation located approximately 42 miles west of Denver and 10 miles west of Empire. It has been in operation since 1976 and today consists of a large block-cave, underground mining complex feeding a concentrator with a current capacity of approximately 32,000 metric tons per day. It can produce approximately 15 million pounds of molybdenum per year. The Henderson mill is located 15 miles west of the mine, between Dillon and Kremmling.

Both sites are surrounded by US Forest Service land of the Arapaho National Forest, making it easy for our employees and their families to enjoy year-round hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the area. What You Will Do

• Assists in collecting industrial hygiene samples of air, vapors, gases, dust, fumes and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
• Assists in performing exposure assessments, analyses of operational procedures, audits, and incident investigations.
• Develop a current knowledge of Company, OSHA, MSHA and other regulatory standards.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of industrial hygiene sampling equipment.
• Assists in the development and recommendation of appropriate remedial actions in response to unsafe conditions or practices.
• Perform data entry related to industrial hygiene sampling campaigns.
• Drafts appropriate reports and presentations for management.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Two (2) years of industry experience including relevant H&S and/or analytical experience (H&S examples: emergency response team, crew safety leader, safety committee member;
• Analytical examples: lab technician, sample collection, quality assurance / quality control), including one (1) year of experience as H&S technician, IH technician, laboratory technician, environmental technician, or closely related work; OR
• Associates degree in a related field and no experience

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Basic understanding of math, chemistry and physics
• Able to work 50% of time at Henderson Mine site (Empire, CO) and 50% of time at Henderson Mill site (Parshall, CO)
• Willing to work various shifts (day, night, weekend) depending on need

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $28.00 - $38.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
