This position is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. It is a Direct Hire Solicitation with COLA applicable to Alaska. Qualifications include GS-7/GS-8/GS-9 levels with specialized experience or related graduate education in Industrial Hygiene or Safety & Occupational Health Management.

Management may assign duties at GS-09 level or provide a developmental capacity if not selected at the full performance. A variety of occupational safety and health responsibilities will be performed.

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports.
  • Education: One year of progressively higher level graduate education in a field such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Duties described reflect the full performance GS-09 level. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced.
  • If not selected at the full performance, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity under close supervision.

This position is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.

GS-7
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports.   • Education: One year of progressively higher level graduate education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.

  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-8
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects; collecting exposure data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; and monitoring exposure data to assess environmental conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
  • OR
  • Education: One and a half years of progressively higher level graduate education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
  • OR
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
GS-9
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections and preparing reports using automated systems; evaluating potential health hazards to recommend mitigating courses of action; and training employees in safety or occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
  • OR
  • Education: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
  • OR
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.
