Job summary

Rural Metro Fire in Louisiana seeks a dedicated Firefighter to perform emergency response duties, participate in training, and maintain equipment. This safety-sensitive position requires the ability to work flexible shifts and follow strict procedures to protect life and property.

Under direct supervision you will respond to fires, administer first aid, conduct inspections and permits, operate vehicles and equipment, and help maintain apparatus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must possess or ability to obtain TSA TWIC credential.
• Physical Agility Fitness Test (Initial Hire and Annually).
• Must possess a Louisiana State or National Registry EMT-B credential.
• Must possess CPR/AED credentials.
• Must possess NFPA 1001 Firefighter I/II credentials (State/IFSAC/Pro-Board) OR NFPA 1081 Industrial Fire Brigade Member.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fires with the company in a timely, safe and skilled manner, following procedures and using hose, nozzle, or tools.
• Administers first aid to injured parties at appropriate training level.
• Conducts monthly fire protection checks (fire extinguishers, PIVs, interior valves).
• Issues daily Hot Work Permits and conducts daily permits audits.
• Safely operates company vehicles and equipment as directed.
• Maintains fire and rescue apparatus and equipment in safe, operable condition.
• Keeps offices, grounds, facilities and supplies clean and usable.
• Performs routine non-firefighting tasks such as data entry and time cards.
• Meets physical requirements to perform firefighting tasks.
• Applies modern fire suppression tactics during drills and incidents.
• Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional.

Job description

Under direct supervision, trains for and participates in duties and related responsibilities of an emergency and/or hazardous nature in fire suppression and emergency operations in an industrial facility . Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult and responsible areas of activity, the major portion of time is spent drilling and studying methods, techniques, and organization, and in routine duties in the care and maintenance of customer property and equipment.

This is considered a safety sensitive position and is subject to the both, the Company’s and the Client’s Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, which includes: pre-employment, post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Responds to fires with their company in a timely , safe and skilled manner, and participates in control of fires through hose and nozzle work, use of hand tools or a combination of these methods. Quickly follows established Company procedures when responding to emergencies as well as instructions given at the emergency scene. Correctly and promptly uses all relevant apparatus, tools, and equipment. Remains calm and poised in all emergency situations and gains rapid control over the problem at hand.
• Administers first aid to injured parties at their appropriate level of training. Quickly analyzes situations where life safety is threatened and applies the correct treatment.
• Conducts monthly fire protection checks (fire extinguishers, PIV’s, interior valves)
• Conducts daily Hot Work Permit issuance, and daily hot work permit audits
• Safely operates Company vehicles, and equipment as directed.
• Assists in the maintenance of fire and rescue apparatus, tools, and equipment keeping such apparatus, tools, and equipment in good operating and safe condition by competently and efficiently performing maintenance and testing tasks.
• Keeps the company offices and related grounds, facilities, and supplies in a clean, orderly and useable condition.
• Performs routine non-firefighting work tasks willingly and adequately such as working on Company records, time cards and other related paperwork.
• Able to meet the physical requirements required to perform firefighting tasks.
• Remains skilled in and properly applies modern fire suppression tactics, methods, and procedures at training drills and emergency Incidents.
• Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional to meet the client’s needs .
• Works effectively in following policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 8 years old
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must possess or ability to obtain a Transportation Security Administration’s “Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card .
• Physical Agility Fitness Test (Initial Hire and Annually)
• Must possess a State of Louisiana or Nat ional Registry EMT-B credential
• Must possess CPR/AED credentials
• Must possess NFPA 1001, Firefighter I/II credentials , (State/IFSAC/Pro-Board) OR NFPA 1081, Industrial Fire Brigade Member

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This position operates on the DuPont shift schedule, which consists of a repeating cycle of 12-hour shifts that include a combination of day and night assignments. The schedule incorporates built-in periods of consecutive days on duty followed by extended periods off duty, resulting in an average of approximately 44 hours of work per week over the full rotation.

Travel:

Travel is usually limited to one time per year for live fire burns , 2-5 day duration .

T he employee will be exposed to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud, from open areas to very cramped confined spaces.

The employee may be required to work at heights above ground and/or confined spaces within the plant premises.

The work environment will subject the employee to heavy t raffic conditions both in responding to emergency calls and when attempting extrications at emergency scenes.
