Castelion in Torrance, CA is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to design and scale manufacturing systems behind our mechanical assemblies. You will own the systems-level view of production, model capacity, balance lines, and define standard work to enable scale from prototype builds to high-rate production.

The role integrates process engineering and program execution, translating production data into decisions on equipment, staffing, and layout.

Castelion is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Engineer to design and scale the manufacturing systems behind our mechanical assemblies — actuators, mechanisms, and structural sub-assemblies. You will own the systems-level view of production: modeling capacity, balancing lines, defining standard work, and building the metrics that tell us how the factory is performing.

This role sits at the intersection of process engineering and program execution, translating production data into decisions about equipment, staffing, and layout that let us scale from prototype builds to high-rate production.

Responsibilities

• Model production capacity and takt time across mechanical assembly lines to inform staffing, equipment, and layout decisions as production scales
• Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, value stream maps, and factory layouts that optimize material flow and eliminate non-value-added work
• Conduct time studies and line balancing analyses to establish standard work and identify bottlenecks
• Partner with design engineering to provide DFM/DFA feedback, ensuring products are designed for manufacturability at scale
• Build and maintain production earned value, OEE, and throughput metrics; use data to drive root-cause investigations into quality, yield, throughput, and cost issues
• Lead capacity studies and PFMEAs for new and existing assembly processes, translating identified risk into concrete process controls
• Define manufacturing standards and inspection requirements in partnership with quality engineering
• Support make/buy and automation investment decisions with data-driven capacity and cost models
• Work cross-functionally with design, quality, supply chain, procurement, and program management to align production plans with performance, schedule, and cost objectives

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related field such as manufacturing, mechanical, or systems engineering
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or experimental environment, with exposure to process or capacity analysis

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with discrete event simulation, capacity modeling, or line balancing tools
• Background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
• Strong understanding of the APQP framework, specifically Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA, and managing Significant/Critical Characteristics
• Experience in a hardware development environment, including transitions from low-rate to high-rate production
• Comfort building dashboards or lightweight data pipelines (e.g. Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau) to track production performance
• Experience with automation, robotics, and flexible manufacturing systems
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Confluence and JIRA
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, along with effective cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to acclimate to frequently changing assignments and a fast-paced working environment
