Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support labor studies and line optimization across Powertrain and Vehicle Operations. You will help benchmark, plan layouts, and ensure efficient production.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, 1+ year of IE or manufacturing ops experience, and co-op exposure. Strong MS Office and teamwork are valued in a collaborative environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing operations experience.
  • At least 6 months of co-op or internship experience counts toward experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support forward model and capacity studies for milestones in Powertrain and Vehicle Operations.
  • Lead labor optimization efforts through benchmarking, target setting, tracking process change, and replicate across programs.
  • Plan cycle line layouts and virtual builds with future model operator allocations and time studies.
  • Collaborate with plants to support physical build events and program launches.
  • Maintain IE documentation such as Labor Glidepath and APT Assessment.
  • Develop and document standardization of methods and procedures for the organization.
  • Drive and implement labor efficiency through deployment of global IE processes, tools and standards.
  • Work with plants to complete and evaluate time studies using MODAPTS as the measurement tool.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, material handling, ergonomics, and plant personnel.
  • Travel domestically.

In this position

You will support forward model and capacity studies for all milestones including Direct Labor and Indirect Labor in Powertrain and Vehicle Operations.

What You'll Do
  • Support forward model and capacity studies for all milestones including Direct Labor and Indirect Labor in all areas (Stamping, Body, Paint, Final)
  • Lead new model labor optimization efforts to achieve labor targets, through benchmarking (internal and external), target setting, tracking process change, and replicate across programs
  • Support the cycle line layout planning process & virtual build events with future model operator allocations and
  • time studies, and work with plants to support physical build events & program launches
  • Minimize and/or offset labor impacts through labor blitzes, plant tasks/projects, and identifying design/process opportunities
  • Assist with operator allocations, cycle line layouts, plant rebalances, line speed changes, time studies, throughput issues, and launch support
  • Accurately maintain and deliver required IE documentation (Labor Glidepath, Program 1-Pager, Labor by Department, Plant Line speed, APT Assessment, etc.)
  • Develop & document standardization of methods & procedures for the organization
  • Drive & implement labor efficiency through deployment of global IE process, tools and standards
  • Work with plants to complete & evaluate time studies using MODAPTS as the measurement tool for work standards
  • Collaborate and work closely with manufacturing engineering, material handling, ergonomics, and/or plant personnel
  • Scope of responsibility may include Assembly and Stamping in North America
  • Travel domestically
You’ll have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field of study
  • Min of 1+ years of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing operations experience
  • A minimum of 6 months of co-op or internship experience will be considered toward the required experience.
Even better, you may have
  • Plant Industrial Engineering & manufacturing operations experience preferred
  • Experience with MODAPTS preferred
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Work well under pressure

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $74,300-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
