Job summary

Autocar, LLC in Birmingham, AL is seeking an Industrial Engineer to optimize our heavy-duty production lines. You will partner with manufacturing, engineering, and sales to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support customized truck builds that meet exact customer specs.

Responsibilities include time studies, layout design, SOPs, lean initiatives, ERP and automation integration, and data-driven KPIs. A bachelor’s in IE or related field is required, with 1–3 years in manufacturing preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree and/or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/ Certified Manufacturing Engineer preferred.

We are looking for an Industrial Engineer to join our team and play a key role in optimizing manufacturing operations, driving process improvements, and supporting the production of customized heavy-duty trucks that meet our customers' exact specifications.

What You'll Do

As an Industrial Engineer, you will partner with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, engineering, and sales to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality throughout our production environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and optimize heavy-duty truck assembly processes to improve productivity, reduce waste, and shorten cycle times.
  • Design and implement efficient production layouts, workflows, and workstation configurations using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Conduct time studies, capacity analyses, and process simulations to identify opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and sales teams to support customized truck builds and evolving customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to drive consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Support the implementation of automation, robotics, ERP systems, and other technology solutions to improve scalability and delivery timelines.
  • Analyze manufacturing data and key performance indicators (KPIs), providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and operational best practices.
  • Assist with cost analysis and budgeting efforts for process improvement projects.
What We're Looking For
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • Master's degree and/or professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Certified Manufacturing Engineer are preferred.
Experience
  • 1-3 years of industrial engineering experience, preferable within manufacturing, automotive, heavy equipment, or heavy machinery environments.
  • Experience with process optimization, production system design, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and process simulation software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks Composer, or NX Unigraphics is a plus.
Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset.
  • Experience using process modeling and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Arena, or Minitab.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing standards, safety regulations, and quality management systems.
  • Interest in automation technologies, data analytics, and continuous improvement practices.
