Job summary

Leprino Foods in Allendale Township, MI is seeking a skilled Electrical Controls Engineer to design and implement plant-wide electrical and control systems, including PLCs and HMIs, and to standardize control logic across projects.

You will oversee external system integrators, document projects for maintenance and operations, train staff, and drive safety and continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing electrical and control systems for capital projects.
• Ability to coordinate and oversee contractors and systems integrators.
• Strong documentation skills for maintenance, operations, and training.
• Knowledge of safety policies and governmental regulations in an industrial setting.

Job description

Short & Sweet: This position is responsible for providing plant-wide support for the selection, installation, programming, documentation, training, and knowledge of plant industrial controls, including: computer integration of PLC's, HMI's and process controls within the facility, training of end users on the operations of newly installed or modified process or control systems, and for standardization of control systems and control logic designs, documentation of operational procedures, and as-built electrical drawings and logic.

Schedule: Standard hours are 8-hour shifts from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. As business needs require, you may be scheduled to support other shifts, including 2nd Shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) or 1st Shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.).*

Weekends & Holidays are possibly required.

*$1.00 shift premium between 6PM and 6AM

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement new electrical and control systems and equipment on capital projects.
• Oversees all outside systems integrators and controls contractors in their work within the facility.
• Ensure all projects are documented and, information is available for use by all maintenance and production personnel.
• Ensure work is accomplished in a safe and sanitary manner by directing employees and contractors, and monitoring adherence to Leprino policies.
• Performs and/or provides details for repairs to control and instrumentation systems to prevent downtime and ensure compliance with plant standards, as well as with governmental regulations.
• Determine necessary quantities of spare controls and instrumentation parts and supplies for all plant equipment.
• Ensure that appropriate training and documentation is available for use in proper training of Maintenance and Operations personnel.
• Provide training and development for Maintenance Technicians to upgrade their controls skill levels.
• Maintain appropriate records and files pertaining to plant maintenance activities to ensure availability of information regarding machine and facilities requirements.
• Act as a resource to Production and Maintenance teams in problem solving and troubleshooting operational activities to reduce downtime related to control problems.
• Integrate Leprino Quality into all aspects of the Allendale plant, as evidenced by continuous improvement, teamwork, distinguished customer service, and striving for excellence.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to support 24-7/365 business.
• Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments with high degree of accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Ability to present difficult skills to employees of all ability levels.
• Ability to lead loss control efforts.
• Knowledge of plant control systems, including PLC's and industrial automation software such as Wonderware.
• Proficient knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to think creatively.
• Ability to collect data and make valid conclusions.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• This position will be exposed to a production operations environment. Industrial setting includes both wet and dry production areas, loud noises, and varying degrees of temperature.
