Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a full-time Industrial Designer Intern at our U.S. headquarters in the Kansas City area. You will assist with aesthetic and ergonomic development, collaborating with Engineering, Marketing, and Management to explore, innovate, and execute world-class designs.

You will work with SolidWorks, KeyShot, CorelDRAW, Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketchbook Pro, while demonstrating strong communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or other related field.
• Portfolio of school project work showing design skills.
• GPA typically 3.0 or higher as a guideline.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Team oriented with a positive attitude and collaborative spirit.
• Proficiency with design tools listed (SolidWorks, KeyShot, CorelDRAW, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchbook Pro).
• Interest in Garmin core markets: Automotive, Aviation, Marine, Outdoor/Fitness, Exhibit/Retail environments.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with the aesthetic and ergonomic development of projects, collaborating with Engineering, Marketing, and Management teams to explore, innovate, and execute world-class designs.

Essential Functions

• Collaborate with Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Management teams to translate project goals into relevant solutions
• Explore a wide variety of compelling design options
• Communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written means

Basic Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or other related field
• Relevant experience and/or training related to user interface design and behavior
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work respectfully with others
• Must demonstrate digital proficiency in the use of tools such as SolidWorks, KeyShot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Sketchbook Pro
• Must demonstrate interest in designing for one of Garmin’s core markets: Automotive (OEM), Automotive (Consumer), Aviation, Marine, Outdoor / Fitness, Exhibit / Retail / Environmental

• Ability to provide a portfolio of school projects that demonstrates skills, experience and/or training in design
