Job description

Turn Flat Patterns into Real-World Solutions

Do you see a 2D sketch and instantly imagine the finished product?

Are you the type of designer who enjoys solving unique customer challenges, optimizing manufacturing processes, and bringing custom products to life?

We're looking for a Industrial Design Specialist who thrives at the intersection of design, engineering, and manufacturing. In this role, you'll transform customer requirements, field measurements, and engineering concepts into production-ready products that keep businesses moving.

From creating precision flat patterns and 3D models to supporting manufacturing teams and developing innovative custom solutions, you'll play a critical role in designing the loading dock equipment and industrial products our customers rely on every day.

What You'll Do
Design Solutions That Matter
  • Create and develop new and existing loading dock products and equipment.
  • Transform sketches, field measurements, photos, and customer requirements into manufacturable designs.
  • Develop detailed 2D patterns and 3D models that support production, installation, and customer applications.
  • Design custom, engineered-to-order products with unique dimensions, materials, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in product prototypes, testing, validation, and implementation.
Bring Designs to Life
  • Create optimized CAD layouts that maximize material utilization and minimize waste.
  • Generate production-ready files for cutting, sewing, fabrication, and assembly operations.
  • Process and manage daily production patterns using automated cutting software.
  • Convert and manage multiple CAD file formats for seamless system integration and manufacturing support.
  • Perform quality reviews to ensure accuracy before designs are released to production.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, manufacturability, durability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead engineering changes and maintain accurate product documentation.
  • Develop standards, templates, and design libraries that improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Research new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods.
  • Support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.
Collaborate Across the Business
  • Partner with Customer Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations teams.
  • Serve as the technical expert for custom and special-order products.
  • Help solve production challenges and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective action efforts when issues arise.
What Makes You Successful

You are part designer, part engineer, and part problem solver.

You have the unique ability to look at a flat pattern and visualize how it will become a finished three-dimensional product. You enjoy balancing customer needs, manufacturing realities, and product performance to create solutions that work.

You'll stand out if you have:
  • Strong AutoCAD and 3D CAD modeling experience
  • Experience creating engineering drawings, technical documentation, and bills of materials
  • Excellent spatial reasoning and visualization skills
  • A passion for continuous improvement and process optimization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience with industrial fabric products, vinyl fabrication, sewing, welding, or assembly operations.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Lisp or Visual Basic programming experience.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience creating engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D CAD software.
  • Strong working knowledge of drafting standards and engineering principles.
