Job summary

BRT Extrusions Inc is seeking an Industrial Controls Engineer to install, maintain, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and related systems in a manufacturing setting. You will design SCADA interfaces, monitor equipment performance, and lead projects with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes predictive maintenance, data-driven upgrades, and collaboration with vendors to derisk capital investments while improving efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), RSLogix/Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View.
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with condition-based monitoring platforms and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to analyze equipment performance data and identify predictive maintenance opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and related control systems.
  • Design and implement SCADA systems to monitor equipment efficiency.
  • Develop strategies for real-time equipment monitoring and data integration.

Job description

Each individual position in the Maintenance department will be apart of a bonus program depending on their job description and duties.Essential Duties of the Industrial Controls Engineer:Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and related control systems.Program and modify control logic to optimize equipment performance and reliability.Implement and support industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet, etc.).Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate control systems with existing equipment.Develop strategies for real-time equipment monitoring, including sensor selection and data integration.Design and implement SCADA systems to continuously evaluate equipment efficiencies.Maintain documentation for control systems, wiring diagrams, and software configurations.Identify obsolete controls and components and provide migration plans to derisk.Accountable for technical support and daily problem solving/root cause analysis.Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction and asset availability.Coordinate with vendors and contractors and act as technical lead to support capital projects.Periodically report or present information relevant to efficiency/reliability improvement.Support strategic initiatives to leverage AI and machine learning.Requirements of the Industrial Controls Engineer:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.5+ years’ experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), RSLogix/Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View.Must have a strong understanding of industrial automation, control systems, and electrical schematics.Experience with condition-based monitoring platforms (e.g., vibration analysis tools, SCADA systems).Ability to analyze equipment performance data and identify predictive maintenance opportunities.Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to carry out written or oral tasks.Strong communication and collaboration with the ability to adapt messaging based on the audience.Highly organized and able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.Preferred Requirements of the Industrial Controls Engineer:Experience with CMMS and open API formats.Experience working with hydraulic systems, preferably extrusion presses.High-level understanding of basic Lean/Six Sigma principles.Familiarity with data analytics tools or platforms (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or cloud-based solutions).Experience implementing machine learning.Experience with robotics is a bonus.Physical Requirements of the Industrial Controls Engineer:This position requires the individual to work in a factory/manufacturing environment. The temperatures can fluctuate from hot to cold and noise level is high. An individual in this role will be able to walk, bend, stoop, twist, turn and climb frequently. With proper safety equipment, an individual in this role may work above ground level (off the ground) for long periods of time. An individual in this role will need to be always aware of movement and/or noises around them. An individual in this role must be able to move 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally. An individual in this role will be an effective communicator verbally and in writing, and this role requires individuals to read and follow written procedures in English.
