Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in instrumentation or electrical technology.
• Minimum 5 years supporting industrial controls/instrumentation in manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
• Experience reading electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, and instrument drawings.

Responsibilities

Job Description Summary

C&W Services is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Controls & Instrumentation Technician to support a dedicated client site by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and optimizing industrial control systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of production and facility systems through preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in PLCs, instrumentation, electrical controls, and industrial automation systems while working closely with operations and maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and optimize industrial control systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment throughout the facility.
• Perform diagnostics and repairs on PLCs, HMI systems, industrial networks, control panels, and associated automation systems.
• Install, configure, test, and commission instrumentation devices including pressure, temperature, flow, level, proximity, and analytical instruments.
• Calibrate and verify field instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site requirements.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic control systems supporting manufacturing and facility operations.
• Maintain and support Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, motor control systems, and process control equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, control narratives, and technical documentation.
• Support modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects related to controls and automation systems.
• Assist with commissioning, startup, and validation of new equipment and control systems.
• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and process performance.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on controls and instrumentation assets.
• Troubleshoot communication networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, Profibus, and other industrial protocols as applicable.
• Utilize testing and diagnostic equipment including multimeters, process calibrators, signal generators, and network diagnostic tools.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, and work order completion within the CMMS system.
• Ensure compliance with all site safety requirements, electrical safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Arc Flash procedures.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to resolve equipment issues and improve system reliability.
• Participate in emergency response, troubleshooting activities, and scheduled maintenance outages as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Technology, Automation Technology, Electronics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting industrial controls, instrumentation, automation, or process control systems in a manufacturing, process, distribution, utility, or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • PLC hardware and troubleshooting
  • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
  • Process instrumentation and calibration
  • Industrial automation systems
  • Motor controls and VFDs
  • Industrial networking and communication protocols
  • Electrical control circuits and low-voltage control systems
• Experience reading and interpreting:
  • Electrical schematics

  • P&IDs
  • Instrument loop drawings
  • Technical manuals and specifications
• Proficiency using calibration equipment, process simulators, multimeters, loop calibrators, and other diagnostic tools.
• Understanding of industrial safety standards including NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, and safe work practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance activities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, enter confined spaces (when authorized), and lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Emerson, Honeywell, Yokogawa, or similar control platforms.
• Experience programming or modifying PLC and HMI applications.
• Experience supporting SCADA, DCS, or MES systems.
• ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• NFPA 70E training certification.
• Experience with CMMS systems such as Maximo, SAP, or similar maintenance platforms.
• Experience supporting automated material handling, manufacturing, process industries, utilities, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or chemical production environments.

The compensation for the position is: $36.55 - $43.00
