Job description

Ready to build high-performance boiler systems in San Antonio? Cleaver-Brooks Sales & Service (CBSS) seeks an Industrial Boiler Systems Pipefitter/Installer who thrives on precision, safety, and field work. You’ll travel daily to customer sites, translate blueprints into reality, and ensure every pressure boundary and pipe run is done right—the first time.

Location: San Antonio, TX

Why this role might be a great fit for you
  • You enjoy assembling boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels using hand and power tools.
  • Blueprints speak your language—you can read them and visualize part locations and relationships in 3D.
  • Tubing is your craft: you can expand and bell ends to connect fire tubes to heads and water tubes to drums/headers, and bead tube ends with a power hammer.
  • You’re comfortable drilling and tapping holes for studs with a portable drill.
  • Bolted frames? You can tighten them down with confidence using hand or power wrenches.
  • You know your way around both water-tube and fire-tube boilers—mounting casings, davit heads, burners, and furnace casings.
  • Accessories—man-holes, hand-holes, fans, gauges, valves—you can bolt or screw them into place securely.
  • When parts or piping fail, you can remove and replace components using prybars and wrenches.
  • Refractory and furnace tile work doesn’t intimidate you.
  • You can thread and install pipe using a pipe wrench and dies.
  • Insulation repair? You can remove, replace, and caulk seams on shells, piping, boiler fire-sides, or structures.
  • You can safely cut out defective parts, boiler tubes, or tube ends with an acetylene torch.
Your piping toolkit
  • Layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of boiler piping systems, fixtures, and equipment—threaded, sweated copper, and ProPress connections.
  • Material selection per specifications: type, size, and compatible fittings.
  • Worksite inspections to identify obstructions and protect structural integrity.
  • Planning installation sequence to avoid clashes and coordinate with other trades.
  • Pipe cutting using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe-cutting machines.
  • Machine threading for precise threads.
  • Assembly and installation of metal pipe and fittings.
  • Support and restraint using clamps, brackets, and hangers.
  • Leak testing by pressurizing the system and monitoring gauges.
What we expect
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience & aptitude: Comfortable working to exact standards, making measurable decisions, and interpreting drawings into accurate builds.
  • Physical demands: Manual dexterity; lift/carry up to 50 lbs; good vision (corrected if needed); agility on ladders/scaffolds; ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Work environments: At heights and in confined spaces—using CBSS-provided safety equipment.
  • License: Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Safety mindset

Knowledge of industrial/commercial safety practices: general safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), overhead work protocols, confined space entry, and fundamentals of electrical safety.

  • FSA, HSA, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
