Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, seeks blasters with 2+ years of hands-on blasting experience to prepare steel surfaces for coating. You will operate blast equipment, learn safety, and perform blasting in tanks, voids, and at heights.

Qualifications

• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed.
• Must be clean shaven to wear a respirator.
• Must be able to work outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to work at extreme heights.
• Must be able to work in small, tight, confined spaces.
• Must be willing to work any shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate blast equipment to create a profile on steel structures for coating adhesion.
• Learn and perform blast operations safely in tanks, voids, and at heights.
• Work 2+ years of hands-on blasting experience on Newport News Shipbuilding projects.
