Job summary
Steel Dynamics' Automation/Controls Engineering Intern in Columbus, MS, will work on PLC/HMI programming, diagnostics, and documentation on industrial automation systems. You will collaborate with operators, electricians, and maintenance personnel to design and test improvements on production equipment.
The role provides hands-on exposure to STEP 7 and TIA Portal, plus opportunity to contribute to control system drawings and dashboards.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Automation/Controls Engineering or related field.
- Basic understanding of programming principles and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Strong interest in industrial automation and manufacturing technology.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Follow safety policies, participate in risk assessments, and support LOTO verification under supervision.
- Assist with PLC and HMI programming, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation for industrial automation systems.
- Support automation projects through programming, software development, and control system modifications under mentorship.
- Develop and maintain control system documentation, including electrical schematics and operating procedures.
- Collaborate with operators, electricians, mechanics, maintenance personnel, IT, and production teams to implement automation improvements.
