Job description

The Indirect Tax Research Analyst II is responsible for conducting tax research and maintaining systems to ensure tax is assessed accurately.

This position is 100% virtual remote, meaning work can be completed from anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii or U.S. Territories.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research, develop interpretations, and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on complex indirect tax matters.
  2. Create and maintain comprehensive multi-state product taxability matrices.
  3. Stay current on tax developments that are legislatively proposed, enacted, or applicable to the organization.
  4. Provide exemption documentation to vendors as appropriate.
  5. Facilitate systemic improvements for commodity/beverage tax returns.
  6. Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and resolution of technical issues with US Foods tax engines (SOVOS / Avalara).
  7. Serve as a liaison with IT/IS on technical matters related to indirect tax applications.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Relationships:

  • Internal: Indirect Tax Leaders and Associates, Finance and Accounting Leaders and Associates, IT Leaders and Associates.
  • External: Auditors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in indirect tax or relevant area.
  • Proficiency in tax research tools.
  • Strong experience in tax technology, including tax software implementation, automation, and data analytics.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask to meet deadlines and assist others.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring work is accurate and thorough.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills for complex information.
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently.
  • Work independently on most assignments with proactive ideas for improvement.
  • Effective collaboration with team members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills across all organizational levels.
  • Less than 5% travel required.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related analytical field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MST, or JD / LLM in Tax.
  • Experience researching, interpreting, developing, and implementing transaction tax processes in a large multi-state industry environment.
