Job summary

Ferrellgas is seeking an Indirect Procurement Category Manager to own sourcing strategy for IT, facilities, professional services, and more across corporate offices and sites. You will lead cross-functional sourcing teams, run end-to-end events, and build consistent procurement practices across a large, dispersed organization.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility role with opportunities to influence supplier initiatives, risk management, and cost optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, finance, operations, engineering, or related discipline.
• Five or more years of strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, or supplier-management experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing indirect spend categories and leading competitive sourcing events.
• Strong commercial negotiation, contract-management, and supplier-performance capabilities.
• Experience conducting spend analysis, developing business cases, and calculating total cost of ownership.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and procurement or ERP systems.
• Experience supporting a dispersed field-service, distribution, retail, energy, or industrial organization preferred.
• Familiarity with Oracle or comparable ERP and procure-to-pay technologies preferred.
• Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, CPM, or equivalent preferred.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship needed.

Responsibilities

• Build and run category strategies across a broad indirect portfolio (IT, telecom, marketing, facilities, energy, professional services, temporary labor, travel, safety, office supplies, and uniforms).
• Analyze spend, demand, market conditions, pricing, and specifications to spot savings and improvement opportunities.
• Lead competitive sourcing events, including RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, bid evaluations, supplier presentations, and award recommendations.
• Negotiate strong agreements covering pricing, service levels, rebates, payment terms, warranties, implementation, and contract protections.
• Build the business case with total-cost-of-ownership models covering price, freight, maintenance, service, implementation, and productivity.
• Make buying easy and compliant through preferred-supplier programs, catalogs, buying channels, and clear guidance.
• Manage supplier performance from selection and onboarding through scorecards, business reviews, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
• Manage risk with Legal, Finance, IT, Risk, and Safety across commercial, cybersecurity, continuity, and operational exposure.
• Report results on validated savings, cost avoidance, working-capital gains, contract use, and supplier performance.
• Improve procure-to-pay processes across the organization.

Indirect Procurement Category Manager

Overview

Ferrellgas keeps homes, businesses, and communities running across the country, and that takes a lot more than propane. It takes technology, facilities, fleets, safety gear, uniforms, professional services, and the suppliers behind all of them. As our Indirect Procurement Category Manager, you'll own sourcing strategy for that spend. Your work will lower total cost, improve service, and make buying easier for teams in our corporate offices, service centers, cylinder filling plants, distribution facilities, and retail locations.

This is a high-visibility, hands-on role for a strategic sourcing professional who likes both the analysis and the negotiation. You'll lead sourcing events from start to finish and work with stakeholders at every level. You'll also help build consistent procurement practices across a large, spread-out organization. The role will add direct reports later. For now, you'll lead cross-functional sourcing teams and supplier initiatives.
