Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Administrative Law Appeals (DALA), through the Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA), seeks a Hearing Officer to independently adjudicate special education disputes in Malden. You will conduct hearings, issue detailed decisions, and ensure fair, timely resolutions in accordance with state and federal law.

JD required with Massachusetts Bar admission and at least three years of legal experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Admission to the Massachusetts Bar.
• At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional legal experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of due process hearing requests.
• Oversee pre-hearing matters and schedule adjudicatory hearings.
• Conduct hearings, rule on motions, and issue written decisions with findings of fact.
• Rule on post-hearing compliance motions.
• Report caseload statistics and participate in training.
