Job summary

J. Craig Venter Institute in La Jolla, CA, seeks an accomplished academic leader to initiate and conduct innovative research aligned with JCVI goals. You will help lead grant and contract development as PI or co-PI, supervise staff and students, and drive multi-professor collaborations.

The role requires a Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field, a track record of funded research, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage projects and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• MD/PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Immunology, Microbiology, Neuroscience or Computer Science).
• Minimum of three years post-doctoral experience or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage projects.

Responsibilities

• Leads and contributes to research projects with minimal supervision.
• Contributes to conceptualization and writing of grants/contracts (PI or co-PI).
• Designs experiments, analyzes results, and interprets data.
• Trains and supervises staff, fellows, and students.
• Ensures safety and compliance with environmental/health protocols.
