Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VA San Diego Healthcare System Administration for Nursing Service is seeking a Health Technician (Phlebotomist) to serve in Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) including Oceanside, Kearny Mesa, Sorrento Valley and Chula Vista.

The role supports venipuncture and lab services with no direct on-site supervisor. Responsibilities include skilled venipuncture, specimen labeling, CPRS/VistA entry, ECGs, and EMR data handling.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience or education related to phlebotomy and lab support.
• Ability to perform skilled venipuncture and specimen handling per policy.
• Experience documenting in Electronic Medical Records and patient care settings.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled venipuncture following safety and policy guidelines.
• Labels tubes accurately and ensures correct patient identification.
• Assists with specimen processing and test accessioning in CPRS/VistA.
• Performs routine ECGs and uploads data to the EMR.
• Maintains clean, safe phlebotomy area and communicates with staff.
• Provides patient instruction and supports veterans with care.
