Job summary

The State of South Carolina, through the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR), seeks an experienced Income Tax Auditor to support taxpayer compliance and administer tax revenue audits within the state. You will review returns, collect documentation, and present audit findings to taxpayers and stakeholders.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, or a related field, plus professional experience in tax-related areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax-related field.
• Professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis.
• Transcripts required.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and conducting audits on federal and state income tax returns, including individual, corporate, and pass-through entities.
• Researching and providing audit documentation with taxpayer-friendly language and clear issues.
• Preparing and presenting audit findings to taxpayers, their representatives, and SCDOR staff.
• Preparing documents for possible appeals and referrals to criminal investigations.
• Providing taxpayer assistance in the office or in the field and attending training sessions.
