Job Description

This position is a Tax Accountant with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The position provides a range of tax services to support the church and its expatriate population in 70+ countries. The preferred candidate has an understanding of global mobility tax principles and has had exposure to a variety of tax issues in multiple jurisdictions. The position will be part of a team of experienced tax professionals working for an organization that emphasizes a good work-life balance.

Responsibilities

The role will primarily work on the following tasks:

  • Prepare and review US individual income tax returns and tax equalization calculations for outbound and inbound expatriates with minimal supervision
  • Coordinate with external and internal service providers to ensure that non-US tax returns and non-US payroll reporting are accurate and timely
  • Perform research and analysis of US tax issues
  • Identify and support resolution of cross border tax issues concerning treaties, shadow payroll, social security benefits, trailing liabilities, immigration, etc.
  • Prepare applications for totalization certificates, Individual Tax Identification Numbers, and US tax residency certificates
  • Communicate with the IRS and other tax authorities on behalf of clients
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business management or a related field.
  • CPA license, Enrolled Agent license, or a state bar license
  • Four years of individual income tax experience with a public accounting firm.
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax issues and recommendations in a manner that is useful to individuals with varying levels of tax expertise and across geographic boundaries and cultures
  • Ability to be flexible with duties in order to meet deadlines
  • Proficient use of technology including CCH ProSystem or similar tax preparation software, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and tax research services (BNA, CCH, LexisNexis, etc.)

Ability to sit for extended periods using computer equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with global mobility and services provided to outbound and inbound expatriates, dual-residency individuals, and resident and nonresident aliens
  • Proficient Spanish language skills in a business setting
  • Experience with bilateral income tax treaties and totalization agreements
  • IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA)
  • Experience working for a Big 4 firm
