Qualifications

• Two years of college completed.
• Candidate holds a two-year degree.
• Must pass the state Parapro exam.

Responsibilities

• Creates positive relationships with students, staff, parents, administrators and professional agencies who work on behalf of the student.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret teacher and related staff directions and follow through with schedule of instruction.
• Assist individually or in small groups to reinforce learning and social-emotional skills introduced by the teacher.
• Assist with supervision of individual, small group or whole classroom for drills, safety plans, assemblies, field trips and prevocational tasks.
• Assist with supervision of self-help skills, daily living and pre-vocational skills including recess, lunch, toileting, hygiene, travel and community outings.
• Define problems, collect data, establish facts and communicate information with supervising staff.
• Be a positive role model and follow through with behavioral supports in all settings.
• Participate in research-based instruction and crisis intervention training as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and direct family communication to licensed personnel.
• Be flexible, open to ongoing professional development and able to adapt to change.
• Additional duties may be assigned based on specific student or classroom need.
