Job summary

The Langham Hospitality Group is seeking an In-Room Dining Server for The Langham Chicago. The role delivers food and beverage to guest rooms, maintains dining areas, and supports private in-room service to meet fine dining standards.

Requirements include two years of In-Room Dining experience, high school graduate (some college preferred), and valid food handling/alcohol certificates. Competitive hourly pay with benefits offered.

Responsibilities

• Deliver in-room food and beverage orders per hotel standards and maintain service areas.
• Be knowledgeable about liquor brands, wines by the glass, and menu items.
• Answer In-Room Dining calls promptly with proper etiquette.
• Maintain knowledge of equipment, Micros system, and room layouts.
• Provide guest service consistent with Langham Hospitality Group standards.

Job description

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

Delivers food and beverage orders to guest rooms according to hotel specifications, courteously and efficiently. Also assists in the maintenance of the In-Room Dining area and equipment. Service private in room meals according to fine dining room standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

• Maintain complete knowledge of all liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections available in In-Room Dining.
• Maintain knowledge of the particular characteristics and description of every wine/champagne by the glass and major wines on the wine list.
• Maintain complete knowledge of designated glassware and garnishes for drinks.
• Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, preparation method, ingredients, sauces, preparation time, garnishes, presentation and prices.
• Maintain complete knowledge of guest room layout, locations and room numbers/names.
• Maintain complete knowledge and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
• Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment, use equipment only as intended.
• Maintain knowledge of Micros and manual systems.
• Answer In-Room Dining phone within 3 rings, using correct salutations and telephone etiquette.
• Complete opening and closing side duties as assigned.
• Set up and deliver amenities to designated rooms.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of all service areas, guest rooms and guest corridors following procedures laid down in departmental standards.
• AM - Set up and deliver doorknob orders.
• PM - Collect doorknob menus from guest rooms.
• Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
• Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
• Report duty as scheduled by direct supervisor according to operating hours.
• Provide maximum levels of guest service while maintaining Langham Hospitality Group standards.
• Be fully versed in all Forbes service standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to exert physical effort in transporting trays and tables from service area to guests.
• Ability to endure repeated physical movements throughout the work areas.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Ability to understand guests' service needs.
• Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to guest rooms within any given period of time.
• Ability to focus on details.
• Ability to maintain good coordination while serving orders quickly.
• Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High school graduate. Some college preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Two years' experience as an In-Room Dining Server.
• Experience in In-Room Dining order taking is preferred.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

• Applicable food handling and alcohol certificates required.

SALARY RANGE:

$11.44-$14.30/hour, plus service charge and discretionary gratuities
