Job summary

The Hay-Adams in Washington, DC, seeks a dedicated In-Room Dining Associate to provide excellent guest service, take orders, prepare and deliver food and beverages to guest rooms, and support night shift operations.

You will follow the Hay-Adams standards, manage guest requests with courtesy, maintain In-Room Dining trolleys, and ensure privacy and cleanliness as described in the SOPs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; related experience 3–6 months or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English; provide clear communication.
  • Ability to take orders, handle cashier duties, and deliver items to rooms with courtesy.

Responsibilities

  • Take in-room dining orders by phone or in person and relay to kitchen.
  • Prepare and deliver food and beverage to guest rooms; ensure accuracy and presentation.
  • Set up and restock in-room dining trolleys; maintain cleanliness and par levels.
  • Observe privacy policies and guest room procedures; handle guest requests professionally.

Position Scope

Provide excellent guest service according to the Hay Adams Standard. Take orders, prepare and deliver food and beverage and guest amenities to guest rooms. Execute designated side-work in In-Room Dining and maintain department during the night by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. The Hay-Adams Handbook, the Departmental Standard Operating Manual and or policies and procedures are part of this job description.
  2. Respect guest privacy and property following all hotel guest service procedures and quality standards including: observe do not disturb signs, double locked doors, never touch guest property, never allow entrance to any person to a guest room.
  3. Accurately take orders directly from patrons requesting In-Room Dining by following the established standards, especially phone courtesy and actively selling food and beverage.
  4. Answer questions and make suggestions regarding food, beverage and service.
  5. Post orders in Micros and issue a guest check for each order. Total bills and accept payment.
  6. Prepare ordered food and beverage. Deliver food and beverage to guest rooms, making sure all condiments and garnishes are correct.
  7. Clean and restock service items according to established par levels. Clean, clear, set and reset In-Room Dining trolleys according to established standards.
  8. Pick up In-Room Dining trolleys from guestrooms and/or do walkthroughs to remove dirty dishes and trays from guest floors and hallways.
  9. Collect breakfast preorders and accurately relay orders to the kitchen.
  10. Prepare mise-en-place and conduct side work for the following breakfast shift, according to established practices.
  11. Clean all spills and breakages immediately. Report any damage or worn items to In-Room Dining Manager.
  12. The understanding that customer care and customer expectations have the highest priority is imperative. This position requires strong guest service skills and personal behavior.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Must have good working knowledge of the English language - ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guest and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

$31.75 - $31.75 an hour

The actual base pay offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held. Base pay is one component of B. F. Saul Company & Affiliates total compensation package, which also includes access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, bonus plans and more
