6 Degrees Search is seeking a Legal Counsel for an architecture-focused client in New York City. The role oversees contract management, insurance oversight, risk mitigation, IP protection, and multi-state licensing compliance for designers and architects.

The position targets 4–7 years of legal experience, a JD, and active bar admission. Hybrid work in NYC with a mix of in-office and remote collaboration, offering competitive compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school required.
• Active State Bar license in good standing required.
• 4–7 years of legal experience, preferably in construction law, real estate development, or design‑professional liability.
• Deep knowledge of architecture/interior design lifecycle, procurement risks, mechanics’ liens, and standard industry insurance structures.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate owner-architect agreements, interior design purchasing agreements, consultant contracts, and vendor terms.
• Manage the firm's insurance portfolio including Professional Liability, CGL, and EPLI.
• Identify and resolve potential design liability issues, disputes, and delay claims.
• Protect proprietary designs, furniture concepts, and digital assets with copyrights, trademarks, and NDAs.
• Monitor corporate compliance, FF&E sales tax obligations, and multi-state licensing requirements for designers and architects.
