About Frontline Wildfire Defense

Founded in 2017 by landscape ecologist and fire mitigation expert Harry Statter, Frontline developed the first fully integrated wildfire defense system to stop the leading cause of home loss in wildfires: ember-driven ignition. The system combines exterior sprinklers, full-coverage design, and connected software for remote monitoring and response, allowing homes to protect themselves long after families evacuate or infrastructure fails.

Proven effective during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 96% of homes with Frontline systems survived. That success has earned top industry recognition, including Frontline being recognized as one of TIME's Best Inventions 2025 in the Green Tech category and receiving the PCBC Gold Nugget Award for "Most Innovative Housing Concept" and the Best of IBS Award for "Best Home Technology." As wildfires grow hotter and more frequent, our vision is to give people the tools and strategies to live safely with fire. We're building a mission-driven team creating real-world solutions in wildfire safety and climate tech.

About This Opportunity

As In-House Counsel , you will serve as the company's top legal advisor and a strategic business partner to the executive team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. You will oversee all legal matters, including contracts, corporate governance, compliance, and risk mitigation, with a strong focus on construction law and commercial contracting. In this role, you will lead and develop our contracts function, managing the contracts team and partnering closely across Operations, Finance, Sales, and Executive Leadership. You will ensure we scale responsibly, protect the business, and operate with excellence and integrity while enabling speed and innovation. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape the legal infrastructure for a mission-driven, fast-growing climate-tech company protecting homes and communities from wildfire risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contracts Oversight: Oversee the company's contracting function across construction, hardware procurement, and SaaS-enabled services. Set contracting standards, approval authority, templates, and negotiation positions; personally handle the highest-value and most complex agreements, including strategic partnerships; and serve as the final escalation point for the contracts team.

Assist with obtaining required permits and approvals.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential contractual risks and liabilities, developing strategies to mitigate them through careful contract language and negotiation.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage all claims, disputes, and litigation, working toward practical resolutions while protecting the company's interests. This includes selecting and directing outside counsel, managing legal spend, and leading the company's strategy in mediation, arbitration, and other proceedings.
  • Corporate Governance: Regularly review and update corporate legal documents and internal policies to ensure compliance with current legal and regulatory standards, mitigating risks. Involve stakeholders for feedback to align documents with organizational values and practices.
  • Employment: Advise HR and leadership on employment matters, agreements, and policies for a remote, multi-state workforce.
  • Privacy & Data: Oversee privacy and data protection compliance for the company's connected monitoring software and customer data.
  • Consumer & Product Matters: Advise on homeowner-facing agreements, warranties, product liability exposure, and marketing and advertising claims.
  • Legal Function Leadership: Lead the legal and contracts department: developing automation and creating scalable processes for the team; manage outside counsel relationships.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree: must be obtained from an accredited institution, along with active membership and good standing with a state bar.
  • Minimum: 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at least 3 years in-house
  • Must have proven experience in construction law, including understanding complex construction contracts, defect claims, and related legal issues.
  • Nice to have: Experience with IP; in-house experience at a high-growth or venture-backed company; supporting fundraising, M&A, or board matters; and consumer-facing product, warranty, or product liability matters
